How many City kids do they have? Not many. Smart recruiting.

I think it's a chicken and egg argument

Geelong are the only regional AFL team...GC maybe but they are irrelevant IMO

Are they smart to not recruit that many city kids or is the lure of a smaller town enticing for country kids?

it's definitely a 'buyers market' for the recruiters at Geelong

PS. Henry and Atkins are both St Joeys boys. Blicavs and Guthrie are Calder Cannons (outer west Melbourne)

I just believe their geographical location has afforded them many benefits.

Blicavs and Guthrie are Sunbury boys - hardly neighbourhood Geelong, if anything closer to Essendon****.

Yep I know...but hardly inner city or E/SE suburbs either...maybe a long bow to draw with those two but my opinion on their geographical advantage doesn't change

I live in Brunswick. Probably take me 15 minutes more to get to Geel than Sunbury. Lots of wasteland on the way to Sunbury. It's a quasi-rural suburb of Melbourne for me.

I commute from Sunbury (where I live) to Coburg North (where I work) every day - it takes 33 minutes, if you can get to Geelong from Brunswick in 48 minutes, can I buy your rocket?

I commute from East Brunswick to Sydenham every day. From my house just to the Bell St freeway (Pascoe Vale/Coburg Nth) entrance can take between 20-30 minutes
I ate at Itahlia restaurant in Sunbury a fortnight ago. Took me 40-45 minutes from East Brunswick on a Sunday

My point is, draw a vertical line right through the middle of Port Phillip Bay and you'll find a significantly disproportionate number of Geelong players west of that line

I assume you mean why aren't we trading stocker.

I believe the club were actually trying to look after him, in that he's most likely to get picked up as a DFA as opposed to a trade.

What I don't understand with that statement is that the DFA period doesn't start till early November. Well after the trade period ends.
Surely, if we're trying to look after him, we'd try to orchestrate a trade so he could move to a new club quicker? Even if it ends up being for pick 873.

I believe we did, and no clubs expressed any interest in a trade.

So by delisting him now (freeing up our list spot) we also allow them to make calculations ahead of time for the DFA period.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't get picked up by one of North, Essendon** or maybe Gold Coast. Holmann did OK at GC after being delisted (and after a stint in State League)

Still feel we need somemore KPD depth.

Sam Durdin is good depth for KPD, and great for the VFL team.

I'm thinking if Lobb does get to the Dogs (despite not looking likely atm), then Schache might get pushed out of the Dogs and end up with us for pick 84 ish which would force us to delist Fogarty if we dont trade Dow or Setterfield.

We have the following picks in the 2023 Draft:

10 (1395 points)
28 (677)
49 (287)
62 (123)
64 (101)

All up we have 2583 points...Pick 7 is 1644 points. GCS need points for Academy players and they have pick 7.

Picks 28+ 49, 62,64 =1188 points. Pick 16 is worth 1067 points. I can see Austin trying to turn pick 28 into a pick 20

That would give us Picks 10 and 20

Can see Austin looking for one more Trade Dow or Setterfield to give him some more points to enable him to upgrade for the pick a likely Draft Target requires.

WE will get 2 very good players from the Draft. That would be an amazing way to finish off the year.

Better off to give pick 28 + 49 to GCS for Bowes and pick 7.

I would love to do this deal.

I feel we would have to give up Dow and Setterfield's salaries to help pay for Bowes $1.7M for 2023-4

I'd be happy with that, especially with the potential kids we could pick up this draft.

No it's not - that's spoken like someone who wants to compare everything to a Capital city.... Geelong is a great place to live and work and the Greater Geelong region is has many great things going for it.

I haven't lived in Geelong for 9 years, but every time I go back there are new buildings, restaurants, cafes, bars and attractions. It is becoming more and more cultured and modern by the year.

How long since you have visited the city Woj and what were you there for? That may go some way to explaining your perspective.

MW's brother lived in Clifton Springs until just before COVID hit so we were down there a few times a year.
Geelong didn't impress me much at all, and that's from someone from the hellscape that is Shepparton. The one thing it does have going for it is its proximity to the surf coast.

I like Melbourne even less.

Brisbane will be more desperate for points than GC. Draft picks are like coins in Gold Coast's ashtray.
Brisbane need points for Ashcroft and Fletcher.
I'd rather we keep 10, package up 29, 49, 66 and 68 with any compensation we get for Dow/Setterfield and try to get 15. Even if we have to trade a future 3rd for a 2022 third.
Take 10 and 15 to the draft.

Pick up a quick mid, a tall defender and rookie list a ruckman.

We currently don’t have a 3rd rounder in 2023. But I agree with the overall strategy - ie. go after Brisbane’s #15 by offering them a package of lower picks which will help them get the points they need.
