Assuming Walsh & Weitering pull up OK and that there’s no other new injuries-
In: Dow (sub), Hewitt, Owies, Pittonet
Out: Honey, Motlop, Newnes, SOJ
SOJ needs a week off to freshen up.
Honey holds his spot if Owies doesn’t come up. If Hewitt isn’t ready to return, then Dow into the 22.
Let Marchbank get another VFL game under his belt. Hopefully Martin is ready to play VFL next weekend too.
Owies will need to come back via VFL after this long
He’s missed 5 games, so you might be right. But if he’s been able to get a reasonable amount of training in, I’d look seriously at bringing him straight back. We need he & Durdin to rediscover the chemistry they had earlier in the season ASAP.
No offence to Honey & Motlop - they are kids and have a go - but I think the forward line gelled better when Owies was in the team.
in agreement here. so Owies is straight in (must have shown a bit at training) and yet Motlop — who is good for a young player but almost not AFL level yet — stays. JSOS omitted (surely being managed on the QT?! and also making sure we aren’t too tall with Pitto and TDK playing this weekend, excited for that).
i want to know why our system has evolved to the point that Motlop is one out in the goal square or forward 30 as our only forward option, or even when there are other options to square the ball to an unmarked player that we kick to Motlop several times again being easily out marked by a player one to two feet taller than him.
the only two blues players i can think of that regularly out marked taller match ups were eddie betts and greg williams. Motlop is not at that level just yet!
how can our players be instructed to kick to those kind of one on ones and why in those situations isn’t Motlop at least on a fast lead to try and get separation from his opponent? ty e kicker can always kick it over his head directly at goal if Motlop can’t get separation on his opponent. it’s such a momentum killer of a play and you can hear the opposition having a deep sigh of relief and easing the forward half and scoreboard pressure on them. just stop it blues, it’s a really dumb play and it happens multiple times a game.
