This is a good thing

Adam Kingsley missed by a bees dick ... there's GOLG out there if we dig for it and do the hard yards.

We have 6 weeks before Trade Period to nail one. Plenty of time!!!

Go get 'em Blues

I do like you what you said, it does make sense , but they won’t be going for an untried afl head coach and it won’t be Voss

Which leaves the Scott brothers , Clarko and bevo ... hmm this just got interesting

Just because sayers said he wanted an experienced coach...he hasn't met or interviewed all the candidates.

This process may be a revelation.

This time is different from selecting a teacher from a successful team to develop a bunch of kids in a total rebuild.

Disappointing that Ross took his name out of the hat for the senior gig but ultimately we may have dodged a bullet given he’s not willing to undertake a full process to assess suitability. Hardly an endorsement on how much he wants the job and how invested he is in it.
The other positive is the field is wide open now so we should get candidates who otherwise may not have come forward due to the misapprehension that the process was intended as window dressing to a decision already made

Does this seem light on for

Are we taking a chance again by possibly not getting the selection panel right.

Very valid point now we know its not a sham.

Get Teague on that Committee as part of his severance pay.

The GF is on in 4 weeks.

AFL says it will have a bye between Prelim and GF.

My guesstimate....

Sat 4 Sept Semis
Sat 11 Sept Prelim
Sat 18 Sept Bye
Sat 25 Sept GF
Sat 2 Oct Celebrate Premiers
Sat 9 Oct AFL complete 14 days isolation.
Sat 16 Oct only 65% of NSW population vaccinated
Sat 23 Oct 70% nsw vaccinated

a lot of water to go under the bridge...can see delays to the normal trade period usually late October.

Oh ok there is a bye. Sorry didnt know. Makes sense. That’s good then so we have some time. We need to trust Austin to seek our club big time now.

A complete stuff up.

Our board is a sham.

We will end up getting another experimental coach ... and round and round we go.

How about: Thank @#$%&! we don't have to watch that defensive and boring shite that Lyon coaches?

I dunno... a coach that gets his clubs to grand finals I'd rarely boring

Equally, when did "3 time losing grand final coach" become a must-have attribute?

Yeah, he was a bounce of the ball away from being premiership coach. My point is he gets the best out of a group and having a team challenging for finals and grand finals isn't what I'd call boring.

AFL is a business of winning games of football not being entertaining losers. I know what is rather

Yeah, of course, coming from where we are, I get it, just the act of getting to a GF is very attractive, and a long way off.

But you said it yourself: "AFL is a business of winning games of football not being entertaining losers."

So what's the attraction of a dude that's coached three grand finals and lost three grand finals? How many times do we need to see he's good at getting to the one game that really counts but keeps failing?

And then how do you define entertaining losers?

For example, would that be Geelong? They've made the finals pretty much every year under Chris Scott and have one flag from 10-years ago to show for it. Nothing to sneeze at sure, and way better than our past 10 years obviously, but where's does your line about winning games of football stop? At 8th place? 4th place? Or losing 3 grand finals?

Surely we want to *win* grand finals, otherwise isn't that just being an entertaining loser?

Whilst I don't disagree with your premiership winning sentiment, I go back to your original statement that thank God we don't have to watch his boring defensive style. I think his style has proven to be far more effective than anything we've been served up for most of the last 20 years. Besides that, this boring style has been massively overstated. His teams put plenty of teams to the sword in his time.

I think he would have been good for us, but if he only wants to be handed the job and not go through our application process you have to wonder how much the job means to him.

Anyway, what either of us think means diddly squat. Ross ain't the boss. Whether he would have been good for us or boring to watch is a moot point. We sit in limbo and wait for the next shit news story about our club

I'm not on the ticket bro.

But yeah - club has lost it's way past 20 years and the bloke who has been on the board half of that is pulling the strings anoited by a benefactor from the Gold Coast that barely watches a game.

Now these clowns want to take rights away from members from having a say in turn to strengthen their grip on power meaning Mathiesons will forever run the club and anoit whoever he wants to anoit from Gold Coast.

As for senior coaches - the billionaires ahve failed the club they have done well with the finance side of the club but they are clueless beyond comprehension on football club sensitivities and matters.

They are just corporate idiots not ELITE sports people. This club needs a Beveridge.

We are an embarrassment.

Would not surprise me to see a stack of players wanting to leave.

Bring on the cricket season! I've had a gutful.

Collingwood sacked Buckley at the bye round and he still had a year to go on his contract
After 14 weeks of searching for a coach and being knocked back by Pyke Lyon and Clarkson they have appointed McCrae.
Buckley was a 10 year coach

We sacked Teague last week and people are up in arms that we haven't appointed a new coach.

What people need to remember is Clarkson and Lyon were both sacked and the same applies to Brad Scott.
I didn't mind Lyon but If I was head hunting for a coach I would be trying to poach one that is currently employed not one that was sacked and on unemployment benefits

There's a particular name on that list that stands out to me as a real red flag.

As a senior player, he was using a first-year player to go and pick up recreational drugs for him. When that player got caught and subsequently sacked, the now-coach did nothing to speak up and was absolutely smashed for it by his teammates when that team eventually went to Leading Teams.

I struggle to see how this guy consistently gets work in the industry.

See my earlier post about what I politely thought about the selection panel.

By the way, Parkin and Diesel were ELITE AFL people. But what we need are current AFL ELITE people particularly those with recent coaching experience.

Yeh but Azza if the media is too be believed the experiences coaches are running out. Buckley, Lyon, Clarkson and Pyke. So who is left? Not sure what is happening with Brad Scott and his AFL position, I would go for him personally.

If there someone we haven’t spoken about?

This. And the “ultimate result” probably can’t be called until this time next year.

This time yesterday, I was moving towards “the process is a sham, Lyon is going to be appointed and the selection panel is just for show”….but that theory has been shot down today (assuming the report that Lyon has been put off by the depth of the process is correct).

The moral of the story - we have NFI what’s going to happen and should hold off calling Sayers a genius or a dud until we’ve seen our team play a season under whoever his board appoints.

If we play shit footy in 2022 I will join the pitchfork brigade.

If we improve in 2022 I’ll be praising Sayers and his team.

This appointment is a massive moment either way for our club.

The problem is that Sayers has been on the board for nine years. He has been part of this coaching merry-go-around several times. Why do we have the same people making the same mistakes every single time? We pick a coach and then sack them before their contract is up? Maybe the coach wasn't good enough? Then why the $%^@@* did the board select them in the first place?

So what’s the solution malbi? You’ve said what you think the problem is, now tell us what you think the solution is.

Pick a coach and support them. Don't undermine them like the board did this year.

Other clubs have gone through reviews and supported their coaches. Geelong and Thompson. Richmond and Hardwick. Port Adelaide and Hinkley. Melbourne and Goodwin. Thompson and Hardwick had the ultimate success. Hinkley and Goodwin have their teams humming this year.

Carlton is too reactive. If we don't get immediate success then it is sack the coach and replace him. As it turns out that has not solved the problem.

You said the board made a mistake by picking a coach who wasn’t good enough and now you’re saying they should have stuck by him? If he wasn’t good enough, wouldn’t keeping him have been a case of “two wrongs don’t make a right”?

You said you don’t have confidence in the board to make the right appointment. Fair enough. I asked for your solution to that problem and I don’t see a clear answer to that question in your response.

Are you saying that you are OK with Sayers et al picking the coach as long as they stubbornly stick by their decision, even if the decision is clearly shown to be wrong two years later? Or are you saying you don’t want this board to make the selection? If it’s the latter, do you think the Carlton Now ticket has the expertise, connections and experience to make a better selection?
