I found a pic on the back page of yesterday's HS somewhat ironic. It showed Stephen Kernahan being chaired off after his winning kick after the siren in 1987.
Chaired off by Harry Madden and IAN AITKEN.

Not that this is in anyway relevant to the topic but I was at that game.

So was I

And me too. My mate turned around, couldn't bear to watch the kick.
Still makes me chuckle thinking about that.

It was from the same spot that Warren Ralph missed a shot to beat Collingwood in 1984 wasn't it?

In terms of potential assistant coaches:

Jon Ralph

Sam Mitchell is putting the band together. Adrian Hickmott has officially signed at the Hawks, assistant Chris Newman has extended for two seasons. Bolton is already signed for 2022. Hawks to confirm today. Moneyball with @ClarkyHeraldSun

Meanwhile, Carlton missed out on their number 1 choice.
They still have the current coach, who is firing shots at his captain.
Their apparent number two choice isn't wanted by a or some members of the board due to controversial, contemporary issues in a previous role.
And an assistant coach had to go and ask whether he was going to have a job at the club next year, to be told he would not.
It's all going very smoothly though.

Sort of stands to reason we cannot appoint new assistants until we have a new head coach.

Apparently Sam McClure has just gone with it being Ross Lyon on SEN. Was anyone listening to it?

what about teague as senior coach, lyon as senior assistant etc..

every club that has seemed to have made the transition well, has been a club that has gone wiht a younger coach, and put support structures in and around them.

williams to melbourne
pyke to sydney (thought i hardly consider horse a young coach)

Actually, i would rather have Ayres to come in that type of role ... but its something worth considering ...

of course, that all relies on that coach and players can move on and work together ... this whole scenario could be a good thing .. get it all out, clear the air and get on the same wavelength and the club finally moving together in the right direction.

Getting Ayres would be a master stroke!

It’d double the number of quality players instantly.

We’d have our Walshes and our Weiterings and our MacKays and our Crippses and...

..voted Lyon.. ....I don't necessarily think he'd be as defensive in gamestyle with the forwards we have (fit and firing)..

....Clarko is a good coach, made great by having so many on field leaders that coached as they played.. ....and I really don't like the impression I get of him as an individual..

Good points mate

There are plenty of adages (and personal experiences/reflections) that I can give which highlight success (winning flags) being awarded to those that persist and are rewarded when their time is due (Lyon)....I’m not getting ahead of myself, just putting some light onto previous moments in history...

No doubt Ross can coach, but he does tend to leave with club lists in horrible shape (see Fremantle/STK).

Hopefully more careful with trading this time around (see Andrew Lovett).

Yze or Caracella. Don't want to know about any of the experience coaches. Lyon is yesterday's man, style just won't suit our list, Buckley, bar two good years, struggled with a good list.

Problem is, the review missed the main issue. 20 years of lazy, half arsed, unmotivated playing efforts with a terrible playing culture. Just about every coach the players gave up on by year 3. Same confusion with game plans no matter who's been in charge. Players have got away with it again while the coach copped it in the neck. Means nothing will change. Next coach will be screwed in 3 years too. Hopefully we get a one year honeymoon period which might lift us over the threshold temporarily before it crashes.

Most coaches leave with things not looking too great
