Honey must be selected for his toughness and tackling

SPS should be selected for his tackling last week

Don't believe LOB has showed enough but no loss if he is selected ahead of Fog and Newnes.

Need someone that is able to run up and down the wings and has a good left foot.

Newnes is ok but LOB needs 2-3 games as coming out of contract.

O'Brien is a genuine wingman who runs the lines and takes the game on. We are crying out for wingman who can run and carry. I don't buy that he doesn't run defensively. I cannot see how we don't play this guy and SpS on the wings. Just ridiculous stubborn selections to have the likes of Cottrell and Newnes playing ahead of these 2 guys, just because they run many kilometers.......really????

I think its more to it than that - LOB's decision making, inacurate kicking and halving the contest leave alot to be desired sometimes

I'm not sure he's decision making or inaccurate kicking is that much of an issue. Not everyone hits targets 100% of the time and I would bet he hits more targets then some others in our current team.
I will also add Walshy, that everyone has different strengths and not everyone can or should play the same way. I can mention many players who 'don't halve the contests in many teams' but what they bring to the team is something it lacks in other areas and gets utilised by the coaching group to the teams advantage. I feel our coaching group currently are focused on one type of individual and missing the alternative advantages. I've been screaming about Kennedy and what he brings to the team all year and finally we play him to his strengths and look what he shows.

I like Teague and what he brings but he needs to more open with his thoughts and executions.

I agree.

But he brings DEFENSIVE running to the team, and always has, something that needs to be rewarded in this team.

I don't think Murphy has a defensive bone in his body, hence 23rd man. Martin and Williams also fail in that area.

We need to reward the selfless, and bloody well should have taught LOB how to halve contests after 4 preseasons: pathetic development, not pathetic player imo, if that's the case.

If my memory serves me correctly (and it may not), the last time Ed Curnow applied a tag was on Merrett vs Essendon*. IMO this is probably Ed’s biggest asset and we are not utilising it at all.
Meanwhile players like De Boar, O’Connor, Harmes etc are contributing to wins for their clubs while playing negating roles.
Keays will very likely go to Walsh this week.
Teague needs to wake up and send Ed to Laird. Tagging has worked for us in the past. This singleminded focus on offence and inability to change up a failing system is hurting us. Your career is on the line David, try something different to the last 6 weeks of garbage

I admire that O'Brien has tried to improve his physicality but it still falls short of AFL standards.
IMHO, move on and admit we got that one wrong.

I agree that Martin has not been good defensively of late but I don't agree that he doesn't have a defensive bone in his body - last year he was applying great forward pressure and his tackles stuck. This year, he doesn't seem to be chasing as much and certaily not catching players. Maybe he is being soft; maybe his injuries this year mean he can't do what he normally would. Of course, either way, he is lucky to survive and would surely be on notice this week (together with Williams and Docherty).

Yeah a lot of us were applauding Martin's hardness and pressure acts last season. I think this application of the "lazy" tag to players when they hit a bad run is a bit, well, lazy.

Clearly you haven’t watched O’Brien play in the reserves , who has no impact at vfl level

If he can make it as a afl player , they will definitely write songs about him !!

Hopefully Honey gets a run and SPS returns
Newman has been poor since he returned to the side but which genius in our coaching box decided he was a good match up for Tobias last week :banghead: just shows how well they are going

Murphy spearing passes ?? When did that happen ?? Might have missed that in his last 295 games ...

Yes it does seem you have been blinded by bias.

I could say the same about you Walshy with your "padding up" the truth of Murphy.

Lets get Murphy to 300, and FFS lets not fall back to the Carlton bias that got us in this mess wayyyyy back in the Elliot era.

That's when he stated that "Carlton doesn't rebuild", and "Carlton legends decide when they retire", then keep the likes of SOS, Bradley, Ratten... playing well into their 30's when we should have traded them or replaced them with players who would take the baton and run with it.

Murphy is cooked. Should've traded him when we had the chance, but I think the Geelong trade was a an unrestricted FA and we would ve got zilch for him.

Elliot era ?? How many flags , how many finals appearances, how many times did the club stand up to the afl ??

This century with revolving presidents , have we been a bit..! To the afl, how many wooden spoons and how many failed attempts to have any success , genuine greats other than Eddie betts will we genuinely remember from this era ??

And the c

I know where you are coming from azza.

I loved the way Elliot wouldn't let the clowns at the AFL push him around, but they did and they won the war against him. They are such a corrupt bunch, but I think you miss my point: we didnt embrace the draft and the new socialist AFL and are paying for it.

Whilst we were in debt to the AFL we couldn't say boo or they would bury us further. They are the warlords, not the Commissioners of the code. Unaccountable and corrupt bunch running this league. Just have a look at Tribunal results, the Fixtures, the concessions ... the AFL is a powerful landlord and is feared by its constituents.

Last year was last year. I was a fan.

Cameras don't lie. He has been exposed. I can't defend him this year. Camera doesn't lie:

He was jogging when he should have been chasing;

He was watching when he should have been tackling;

He should have been a forward option running into space but stuck his hand up with his taller opponent next to him.

I haven't given up on him, but hoping the shame of being found out may help drive him. Lazy is the apt word imo.

LOB like Dow had his best season in his first year.

Free him up, let him play, get his confidence back. Give him at least 3 games as Cottrell got more than that. He may not make it but give him a chance.

If he can't be in our best in the reserves how can he be picked in the firsts. Has showed very little in the reserves all year and clearly has no hunger to make it in the AFL. This is one I agree that SOS got wrong. Waste of time selecting him.
