Yeah, but if they redevelop it into a roofed stadium with a capacity of 65,000 we should be OK.
Turn the cemetery into a car park.
Keep the old scoreboard though.

Better still, turn the cemetary into an underground carpark

I'd only park there if they have a valet to park and retrieve my car for me.

If this goes ahead, the AFL should allow certain teams to play there. Dogs v Freo, NM v Adelaide would allow everybody in.

Don't rush it. We need time to knock down and rebuild the grandstand a couple more times.

So the Victorian Govt is committed to huge investment in Public Infrastructure: Billions to be spent.

Of those Billions, I don't see the redevlopment/ upgrade of Princes Park/ Ikon Park Stadium on the list, which was announced last year or the year before, but there's other projects which have only been recently announced on the list

Quote:
$5.3bn for biggest social housing package in state’s history
$5bn for airport rail link (not all in forward estimates)
$2.2bn for the Suburban Rail Loop
$2bn for first stage of fast rail to Geelong (not all in forward estimates)
$1.6bn to support students with disability
$868.6m additional boost for mental health
$797m for the major household energy efficiency program
$474m to protect Victoria’s environment and invest in parks and zoos
$465m for Victorian Tourism Recovery Package
$400m for stage three of Shepparton Line upgrade
$272.4m to upgrade the Great Ocean Road and inland routes
$235m for jobs in mental health, family violence, child protection and disability
$169.6m to make kinder free in 2021
$155m to set up the National Centre for Infectious Diseases
$120.9m so patients can recover from illness or surgery at home
$84m to transform Werribee Zoo into Australia’s leading open range zoo
$65m for an agriculture industry strategy
$50m to upgrade facilities and learning spaces at Victoria’s agricultural colleges
$44.1m to upgrade Great Ocean Road facilities and infrastructure
$40m for stage five of Kardinia Park redevelopment
$36.6m to upgrade Whitten Oval

$23m to build a new visitor centre and biodiversity sanctuary at Wilsons Prom
$21m for sports vouchers to get kids active
$20m for zero-emission bus fleet business case
$18.5m for the Gippsland Tourism Recovery Package
$15.5m to upgrade Richmond Football Club facilities
$10.3m to upgrade the Murray River Adventure Trail
$7.3m for the Danny Frawley Centre for Health and Wellbeing
$7.3m for Arden Street upgrades and new change rooms
$6.7m to create a National Centre for Photography in Ballarat
$5m for a Secure Work Pilot Scheme to provide sick pay for casual workers
$4.9m to upgrade the Mallee Silo Art Trail

Not one red cent mentioned for Ikon Park.

WTF is going on?
Are we being sold a white elephant by the club? or, just a mistake?

It's already received $35 million in state and federal government funding redevelop as the home of AFLW
https://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/70313 ... evelopment

It's currently being tendered out so building will commence sometime early next year I imagine.

Would be nice for the club to release the Ikon Park master plan soon-ish so we can see what is being built. There are some rough plans on BigFooty. Looks like the Pratt stand making way for more training and education facilities.

The Gardiner Stand would seem the logical one to go. Maybe Heritage listed ? ...........Loved the bar underneath.

I can't wait to down my two cracked cans of beer a quarter at the scoreboard end and reminisce about the olden days when no one could beat Carlton at Carlton.

(more likely a coffee these days)
