Blues should wear facemasks for this

So how's the socialist corporate model of the AFL going these days? Are we still bending the knee? What's the social justice cause for this weeks game? Playing Essendon* this week ...drug addicts get in for free? Oh I got it! Drug injection rooms at grounds for those less fortunate ...

I am genuinely worried now after seeing the video of him rubbing snot on his hands and then handling the footy.
If he has passed it on to ANY of those in his training pod, there is a possibility Essendon* will end up with multiple cases but it will be too late for us if we have someone infected.

If it takes 14 days to incubate, how can the health department give the the OK? They aren't looking all that competent what with the Vic situation compared to other states as it is.

The AFL looks as though it is going against its own protocols here. I admit I have not read them but both Whatley and Ratts said it had been made clear to clubs that if a player tested positive, that his entire pod would have to miss 14 days of footy.

So why aren't they?

I would suggest that we recognise that it's still Tuesday and there's still a little bit to play out. I would hope that these are the very reasons you put a QC on the board and hire a competent General Counsel to the executive. I would like to think that Chris Townshend and Ian Prendergast would be asking questions of those decision makers at AFL House and by the time we get to Saturday evening - if those gentleman, the President and Brad Lloyd deem that it's ok to play, then that's good enough for me.

It's tough, but I'd rather Carlton miss this game, and then have the club available for subsequent games. Essendon* can get stuffed.

OH&S of Carlton plays should be paramount right now.
I'd be a little nervous if I was a CFC player right now.
Ess player too.

So we play them with a weeks rest, they should be playing Melbourne tomorrow night and us on Monday night. Even Melbourne on Thursday and us on Tuesday - you know, fluid draw and all.

I agree about our players being entitled to be concerned though. Who would trust any of this?

Spot on
We cant pick and choose when to be worried and when to jump on our high horse - yes it is Essendon** this time round, . Soon it will be another club, soon it will be Carlton. Department of Health makes the call, based on more medical understanding and investigation than any of us, back their call or cancel the season.

No, couldn't be.

Why doesn't a "journalist" ask them.

If the health department has made a bad call on this or has succumbed to pressure from the AFL in any way, the season is done and dusted if even one Carlton player gets it..
QLD looks like closing its borders to Vics. NSW may do the same. WA have a compulsory 14 day isolation to anybody crossing the border.
Vic is about to have a second wave and the Vic Helth Dept allow this?

If I were CEO of Carlton, I'd be on Gil's door already. There is NO way this would have happened if Essendon* were playing WCE, Freo or any other interstate club.
Or Collingwood.

I have serious doubts the season will run its course. A precedent has been set. If any other player gets infected, the same system that was applied to this week has to be implemented again. However, I suspect they will simply do what they did with the 'Silk' tackle last week and re-write the rules to suit the occasion.

There is No way John Elliot would have put up with this shit.

I don't think it is a matter getting on a high horse. The Essendon* situation is real and the others are hypothetical.
I hope the game goes ahead but not with players who should be isolating. That goes for any club.

Oh, that's right on the 'video evidence' (lol) you can't see any snot or saliva on the ball... and when they were standing around the weight bench they were careful. All clear..
Whats the point of the COVID app anyway...... AFL...

Agreed.
But we are still on a hiding to nothing - win, and it will be because Essendon* was derailed. Lose, and we must really be terrible.
However, that is just external perception - if we play well, we will win and it will mark a big step forward in terms of playing with the weight of expectation and the belief that will come from that.
If we lose, I will be extremely disappointed because we should be better than the Bombers by now.
Our backs are solid. Weitering, Docherty and Jones are leading well.
We have seen how much better we play when our forwards work together. I don’t expect Eddie to play that well again this week but I do expect others to pick up on his on-field leadership. And I think Jack Martin has so far proved to be the recruit of the year. He makes such a big difference for us.
And Pittonet is surprisingly proving to be a real competitor and one of the in-form ruckman. This is a big opportunity for him this week. Our mids have been ok and I see upside there.

But mindset is going to be the main driver of our performance. This week, and every week.
