Normally I don't read this articles but working from home for past however long it is has me bored.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-20 ... 649ba5c1a0

Had a chuckle when they listed essendons*:
Past player: All who’ve met Jobe Watson say he’s one of the great all-time blokes

Goes without saying they nominated Hodgey from the hawks too.

As for us, this is what they came up with:

Current player: It’d be pretty funny to be at the same table as the Ed and Charlie Curnow. The brothers would just sledge each other all afternoon. You wouldn’t even have to make conversation.

Past player: A no-brainer, right? It has to be Brendan Fevola, whose charisma has only grown since retiring a decade ago.

I'd probably agree with the Curnow brothers for current players. Most of our current players come up across as pretty boring.

As far as past players, Fev will no doubt be a lot of fun till he starts a brawl. Sticks has always loved a few. Glenn Manton is another who I think would be a good bloke to have a beer with. (is that phrase trade marked yet?)
Also, some of the players from our great 80s sides would be awesome. Especially the original and best mosquito fleet.
Personally, I've always found Alex Marcou quite entertaining and humourous.
Which of our past players would you like to have a beer with?

About 7 years ago I bumped into Braddles just outside South Melbourne market and had a photo taken with him.
He was still looking super fit. I told him he looked like he could still get a game
He replied "do you reckon I could get a kick?". To which I responded with "well you actually can kick so you already have 90% of our players covered.
He laughed.

It all depends on what type of session you're after: intellectual conversation; plenty of laughs from stories; hooligan, run amok....

Furthermore if you want "a" beer or a long session, and or ending legless.

eg, Intellectual: Fitzpatrick, and maybe these days Cuningham, but I don't expect it to be too much fun

A great story teller who can sip and chat all day is Percy Jones, many on TC can back that up.

My favourite, and he's a stayer is Mark Maclure...can go all night, and hang a bit of shit too, as does Rhys.

Marcou for his love of the frothies and vulgarity with his delivery.

Dominator is still bloody good value too .. albeit a bad "shaggers" back.

Jezza is a sweet man, and you have to remember a grandfather who doesn't mind a coldie whilst fishing.

Fev is the ultimate party boy and much younger than the above. Despite being more aware of the public eye, he can't help being his excitable best.

For me, if it were to start after dinner it would be in order Maclure, Fev, Rhys-Jones and Marcou ... and after 3am The Dominator.

I'm sure there's some dark horses from eras gone by and a surprise or 2 from the current crop: they can't all be new age elite sportsmen.

Val "Woof" Perovic.

I wasn't a beer drinker back in the day, but he was big time. Loved a laugh and could go all night.

Triple Jack on ice was my go to drink ... and with drink cards back then I was know to shout a few ... fruit tingles, illusions, sambuccas...can't believe I'm still alive and still drinking.

Have had a beer or two with a few Blues players over the years having enjoyed at least one beer with…….
Jezza – in Darwin after a St Marys grand final win. Celebrating the St Marys win and tried to convince Jezza that he had been beaten when he played on my mate Benny Vigona in a Vic v WA interstate game. I think I must have had a few too many GF celebratory drinks as it took Alex quite a while to convince me that he had never played on Benny in an interstate game. Great player and great guy.
Alex Marcou – In Darwin for a “Spirit of Carton” luncheon and in Melbourne for a function at a game and dinner after. Love the guy and really enjoyed his fabulous stories but would be worried about an extended drinking session as Grange costs too much.
Val Perovic – played against him in Darwin and had quite a few sessions around the traps after games. Had some good times with him and his good mate - a Darwin footy legend - who is my bro in law.
Geoff Southby – at a “Spirit of Carton” function in Darwin. What a champion full back and a nice guy – would enjoy catching up again any time.
Syd Jackson – at a function in Darwin after Aboriginal All Stars beat Carlton. Syd had some positive advice for my son who was playing in U/18 Australian Championship Cricket tournament at the time. Loved him as a player and really enjoyed spending some time with him.
Ken Hunter – met at a Carlton function in Darwin and shared some stories about playing on opposite sides when he played for North Darwin on his way through Darwin just prior to playing for Carlton. Very nice bloke.
Marc Murphy, Josh Kennedy, Ryan Jackson. Didn’t have a beer with them – just a few soft drinks - but spent and afternoon and evening with them sitting in the stand at the first ever international Cricket game Australia v South Africa ODI at Docklands soon after they were drafted. They were all surprised that I knew their names and what number they were drafted at. Had a good discussion with Marc who had played u/13 Aust Championship cricket against my son. Vic beat NT by 1 run. Murph remembered my son bowling quite well against them.
Setanta and Aisakie o’hAilpin bit of a family connection with Setanta being friend of my a brother in law and Zakie good friends with close relations. Enjoyed a few dinners and drinking sessions in Melbourne and Darwin.
Bill Bennett - 1968 premiership player who only played about 5 games with Carlton – coached me at two clubs in NT (both premiership years). Catch up every time I go to Melbourne and would definitely be one who I would have a beer with – but would have to be prepared for a very late night.
Would probably choose Alex Marcou, Bill Bennett and Jezza.
