Shift someone to the LTI list and grab Marlion Pickett and the best ruck we can find - preferably one that offers something as a forward so can play in same side as Kreuzer and ideally with some mongrel in them.

Pickett can play off half back, mid or forward as we may need.

Good idea to get a bird in the hand...a ruckman.

Then at the end of the year throw $1M at Grundy for 4-5 years or Gawn 3-4 years ... prefer Grundy, then the best available mid from another team.

Target the best. We are not far off.

We have a lot of players out of contract this year.
This includes Cuningham, Kreuzer, Plowman, Silvagni, Jones, Marchbank, Ed, Phillips, Kerr along with Simpson and Thomas.
If we continue to be so crap it will be harder to hold on to players.

Of that list Cuningham, Jones, Marchbank and Jack would be the priorities. The rest of the uncontracted players strike me as either unlikely to leave or not that much of a loss if they do. Our contracts have been managed very well.

Who is the rumoured top 5 player at Carlton the Doggies have their eyes on at the end of this year?

They may be after a player in contract, and want to trade.

Might be just a made up rumour.

Apparently it is McKay. He has just signed a new contract so good luck with that.
A massive amount of money being thrown at him is the rumour.
I doubt it is true but you never know.

I don't agree that we need to prioritise Silvagni... we should look after him in the final deal, but we don't need to prioritise him... he won't sign elsewhere.

Cunningham should be a top priority.
Marchbank and Plowman - we should definitely work hard to keep. Marchbank is probably the higher profile, with more upside.. but you never know. Plowman might end up producing more over his career & be more durable (?)
Jones I would keep, but I sense that he would feel a bit of loyalty towards us, which gives us a bit of upper hand.

Kreuzer, Ed, Phillips, Kerr, - Might be too soon to tell.
I would like to see Kerr get some game time ...

Simpson is a no brainer, let him decide for himself.
Thomas - probably the same. If he wants to stay, we probably cant afford to lose a senior player.

I'd say we're facing a dilemma with the mid-season draft.

We probably planned on picking whoever we saw as the best available player, but we might be swayed to pick the player who can best help us right now. And you could argue that the player we most need is a senior body who can crash in and provide some support for the kids. But is there even a player in the draft pool who matches this description?

Well we could of picked up Michael Barlow for nothing late last year. Hard body good citizen he would of given Cripps the chop out he dearly needed. Yes 30 odd but for a year or two nice cover for the young ones

Some of those mentioned will be lucky to be on an afl list anywhere next season, namely Phillips and Kerr.

I can’t see any of the others leaving, unless Simpson or Thomas retire.

AFL Exchange podcast saying that most clubs are going to use the mid-season draft to beat the national draft, by picking late developing 18 year olds rather than ready made players. Also mentioned that it would be a huge surprise if Kyle Dunkley doesn't go to Carlton.

Blues set to take former Dockers midfielder with No.1 pick
Riley Beveridge
May 26, 2019 3:26PM

CARLTON is set to swing a surprise at the NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft on Monday night, with former Fremantle midfielder Josh Deluca firming as the likely first selection.

AFL.com.au understands the Blues have settled on Deluca, despite increasing speculation surrounding Footscray midfielder Kyle Dunkley’s chances of landing at Princes Park.

YOUR CLUB'S TARGETS Our experts analyse the Mid-Season Rookie Draft

Carlton met with a host of draft prospects on Wednesday and is understood to have come to a decision on recruiting the diminutive West Australian late last week.

That’s despite Deluca, 23, sitting out Subiaco’s WAFL clash with Claremont on Saturday due to hamstring soreness.

MID-SEASON ROOKIE DRAFT Former players, brothers of star on the list

Dunkley, the brother of Western Bulldogs premiership player Josh Dunkley, had long been considered the overwhelming favourite to be selected by Carlton with the first pick.

Eastern Ranges youngster Cody Hirst and VFL duo Sam Lowson and Frank Anderson had also been in the mix to land at the Blues.

However, Carlton’s young midfield group and its lack of hardened bodies is believed to have led them to Deluca.

The 179cm midfielder returned to the radar of AFL clubs after starring in Subiaco’s premiership victory last season with 29 disposals and eight tackles in the Grand Final.

He’s since averaged 25.7 disposals and 5.3 tackles per game to start the current WAFL campaign.

His form comes after an indifferent three-year stint with the Dockers, where he played just four AFL games – all in his final season for the club in 2017.

North Melbourne’s upset victory over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday means Carlton is certain to take the first selection into Monday’s rookie draft.

Carlton is languishing in bottom spot on the AFL ladder after round 10, two games behind the 17th placed Gold Coast heading into Sunday’s clash with St Kilda.

The 2019 NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft will be broadcast LIVE on AFL.com.au, the AFL Live Official App and Fox Footy from 6.30pm AEST on Monday, May 27

I rate our recruiters. And maybe Deluca's the best available. But not sure how another undersized midfielder is going to help.

We have been able to keep our young players so far.
It will only be a matter of time before some of them start asking to be traded.

Quite a few out of contract this year and contracts mean nothing anyway.

The ones that matter are signed & as Gibbs showed contracts mean you only lose players if you get fair/overs compensation
