No Cunningham for at least another week according to injury update. Kreuzer & Phillips sound likely and McCov & Charlie sound possible.
I think the club will take a conservative approach with McGov & Charlie. My revised selections-
In: Kreuzer, Phillips, SOJ
Out: McGovern (inj), Gibbons, Lobbe
Polson will need to bring fanatical pressure to our forward line to retain his spot. With Cunningham, Fasolo, Garlett, Gibbons, Lang and Pickett lacking fitness and/or form, Polson needs to grab his opportunity.
B: Simmo Jones Plowman
HB: Thomas Weitering Marchbank
C: Walsh Cripps LOB
HF: E Curnow Casboult SPS
F: Murphy McKay SOJ
R: Phillips Dow Fisher
Inter: Kreuzer, Newman, Polson, Setterfield
Wow that is an absurdly tall side. I thought we were way too tall on the weekend and you’ve gone even taller. SOJ and McGovern are like for like. Phillips and Lobbe are like for like. But you’ve gone another ruckman for Gibbons?
Kreuzer, Phillips, Casboult and McKay in the same team.. not in a million years for me. Ideally only 2 of them but with Curnow and McGovern out I can deal with 3.... just. Add to that a very tall backline with Jones, Weiters, Marchbank, and Plowman. I really can’t see the appeal. We will be completely ran off our feet IMO. We need to win the ground ball and link up through the middle of the ground with waves of running players. Going this tall only encourages the bomb it long game plan that we all despise

I share your concern about being too tall, but I think we’ll play 2 ruckman if both Kreuzer & Phillips are available. McKay & Casboult suck as 2nd rucks and, more than ever, I think clearances are vital this season. If McGov & Charlie are unavailable, Casboult gets a game because Harry needs support and Kreuzer/Phillips are not effective as forwards. I agree it’s far from ideal to have Kreuzer, Phillips & Casboult in the same side.
Another point is that we have very few ground level runners in reserve. SOJ at least can play multiple roles and should be match fit. Kennedy may or may not be injured again. It would be handy to have Cunningham, Docherty, Lang & Pickett all fit and pushing for selection....
Until then, we desperately need at least one of Gibbons, Polson, LOB, Fasolo & Garlett to stand up. Polson had a decent game against Port but was poor last week. Gibbons hasn’t fired a shot. LOB has potential but a long way to go. Fasolo has struggled to keep up and Garlett is learning a new role.
With the list profile we currently have, injuries hurt us more than most teams. That’s not a ‘cop out’, it is the harsh reality of where we’re at following a rebuild which was unprecedented in its scope.
By my reckoning, unavailable last week - Charlie, Doc, Pickett, Cunningham, Kreuzer, Phillips, Williamson, Macreadie, Lang, LeBois + McGov (for a half). Maybe Kennedy too.
Don’t underestimate what a difference it would make to a young side like ours to go a few weeks where we don’t suffer new injuries. Aside from the structural impact, and continuity loss for individual player development, our guys need a block of games playing together to build the synergy needed to win. I would love for Bolts to be able to field the team he wants for once!
