I give SOS and his crew a big

For the first time in a few years, there’s nobody on the Out list who you’d say is a significant loss for us.

Depends on your idea of significant. Wright and Byrne were best 22 IMO.

Probably in 2019. But they weren't significant members/ pillars of our team moving forward.

I think Wright was playing in his last season if he was to stay.
I think Byrne showed he's a Best 22 player, but hadn't cemented his spot because of injury interuptions.

Adelaide's 5th Rd pick

Jesus.

Doesn't really matter too much.

We have 2 First round Picks (2019 & 2010).
That should snag us a beauty of a trade.

Then there's a FA we should get on board.

2 A Graders end of 2019 will be he icing on the cake.

From the youngsters
Pickett
Lang
Polson
Cunningham
Garlett
Jack Silvagni
Phillips
Kerr
Macreadie
LeBois
All have enough talent except for the last two, who I will admit I have seen very little of, so only conjecture on my part. But if any of the above want to stay on the list they will need to show why they deserve to with plenty of improvement and consistency.

Thomas did well to keep on trucking but may retire.
Jones provides a valuable bits part at either end and will likely line up round 1, but might be on the block at the end of the year.
No project ruck so I would say Lobbe will remain into 2020
Casboult is hopefully now just playing if we have injuries. Can’t see him on the list in 2020.
Simmo may retire. Never!
Kruezer’s body will also probably dictate what happens to him year to year now.

There will still be likely 6 or more changes after 2019 season.

For me it will likely be
Thomas
Casboult
Pickett
Lang
Garlett
Kerr

Rookies
LeBois
Goddard
Bugg

Turned over as well.

I think we've done our major culling and ts back to basics: min 3 changes to list.

Thomas 32 yo (retire)
Simpson 35 yo (retire)
Casboult or Lobbe both 29 yo (delisted)

3 Spots created for

Trade in (for First Rounder)
FA
Draftee

Pressure on Pickett (to be & stay fit), Garlett (form) , Polson (pressure on his spot)...these 3 may be next to go end of 2020, if not earlier.

Can' see too much culling unless we have quality picks. I think we will Trade 2019 and 2020 first rounders for A Graders.

Pressure for spots on list let alone best 22.

Agree on minimal changes, most are senior players retiring or out of contract next year.

I think we’re now in a position that we can put time into developing the youngsters who really train hard and give it their all. Polson and Kerr I can see around for another two years. Pickett and Lebois have question marks.

Not much on TV tonight so I watched the Essendon* win from last year.
Best players included Lamb and Wright., both of whom have been let go.

Of those still in the team but in the gun, Jones played well for 13 spoils and several contested and uncontested marks. Garlett ran around and made position but didn't get many positions.

Kreuzer and Cripps our best two.

Essendon* weren't that good. They certainly improved but Goddard played well and is gone. Bellchambers gone. They have added Sheils but not much else.
They are beatable.

Hi all - I've only just found this forum. Super work.

I did an Off-Season Review and spoke about our best 22 going into round 1, 2019.

Have a listen here and let me know what you think:

What I love about the blues is we are patient. We are slowly building the list, slowly rebuilding and we keep holding on to that Hendo pick just waiting for that next opportunity. Who should we use the Hendo pick on?

SOS couldn't have gone any harder the past 3 yrs. It's been a total knock-down/rebuild.

4 years now isn’t it for SOS? I make it 11 players left from when he took over. Murphy, Simpson, Kreuzer, Cripps, Jones, Docherty, Plowman, Phillips, E. Currnow , Thomas and Casboult. You might be able to disagree with some of his choices but it’s hard to see how he could have gone any harder at our list.

Plowman and Phillips were brought to the club by SOS so even fewer remain.

Can't see nine or ten players being turned over Todd... But I agree with your list in terms of the younger guys there needing to show something.
The rookies... Well yes... Show something...
The guys with talent (read Pickett /Garlett)... Show something...

They all could get another year if they do.
I reckon the changes will be in the older end... And you've got those right.

Cheers

So for a few years conventional wisdom has us bringing in an elite midfielder and paying accordingly.
In the medium term, do we now need to do this ?
Soon enough we will need salary cap room to keep all our new young talent.
Have we suddenly more or less resolved our need for midfield talent ( although young) ?
If we still buy someone in, it might actually be a ruck?

We need quality small forwards more than anything. We currently have none

We haven't had any small forwards put their hand up during our injury riddled year.

We have plenty of listed players who could play that role if we have a full list to choose from.

Gotta get the ball down there first, and not just past the 50 metre arc.

So what's the story with our one spot on the list and the Supplementary Selection Period?

Do we have to choose someone soon? I thought this was going to be like a 'mid season draft' but it appears it's already 'open' and seems it will be limited?

I'll have to do some searching!

(edit: found it, Dec 1 - Mar 15....not sure I get the long period... But anyway)

Also wondering who it may be (seems Lamb is off the list... I assume that leaves the NB Boys?)

So I assume those guys are training with us still?

Go Blues

This could turn out to be an excellent call.
Depends obviously on how our cohort of young mids develop.
And TDK. We don’t have much backup for gather ruck.
And FWIW, I don’t put that much priority in nailing a permanent small forward (vs an old style rover resting in in the forward line) but I fully accept that others do.
