AFL actively investigating possible draft tampering in SA.

Gaining some momentum.

Alleged that a highly rated, SA based draft prospect told Gold Coast he wasn't leaving SA in the upcoming draft, in an endeavour to slip past the top 4 picks.

Will make for interesting reading if AFL release findings from the investigation.

Cheers

Whilst no priority pick is forthcoming it is interesting to note the AFL’s makey makey up rules in regards to free agency compensation.

So Gold Coast get pick 3 for Lynch, whilst Dalhaus are awarded only a late 2nd Round pick. The guy is an elite midfielder premiership player, yet is worth far less according to the AFL. Where is the formula for this compensation?

AFL's discretion. Obviously. Personally, I don't even think Dalhaus is worth that pick.

He is? Definitely not this year. Is he in their top 25% earners? I can think of half a dozen who might be in front of him. Thought the compensation was more than reasonable.

Dalhaus may not be elite, but certainly worth just a little more than a late 2nd rounder.
AFL has strange method of evaluating a players worth.

Apparently Jarrad Waite was worth basically nothing due to his age, and yet he had a great career at North.

Yet another loophole for the AFL to direct favours to their project teams. Have a system that doesn’t appear to favour some and not others.
Dalhaus =accumulator
Premiership player
My summation worth pick 10-15.. but that is my makey makey up rules.

Would prefer Geelong having to give up something to get Dalhaus than the AFL paying for it.

And further devaluing our two second round picks (by design I might add  )

We are being screwed by the AFL as they are scared of Scott Kennett and MCChins

We should remember this when we ascend the ladder and show none of them any mercy when we go past them all

Thank God, the AFL maintained draft integrity by not giving Carlton extra picks, whilst enabling Hawthorn to pick up Tom Scully for pick 600 or whatever it was.

Tim Watson is right. There is something wrong with the mechanisms of the draft, trading etc when Hawthorn can give up pick 57 or whatever for one of the elite midfielders of the comp. the media are trying to sell it as “his ankle is destroyed” yeah sure. I believe it...not

Hawthorn once again a premiership threat, and the AFL could have stepped in to prevent trades like this one. At least make them give up a 2nd Round pick is a start.

Hawthorn have made themselves a destination club through good management. Well done and good luck to them.

Exactly and that's what you need for sustained success: no doubt a good off field model worth following.

How they got to that position since the days thy were in merger mode to their first flag and beyond should be questioned. It has the AFLs mitts all over it. If the AFL help/ collusion is forthcoming to all other teams in the AFL in this era of equalisation then fine, but it hasn't and its not forthcoming. The expansionist clubs is another story. FA another.

Its easy to put a case forward and prove the AFL gave the Hawks a leg up but the same priorities have not been given to all other teams

How can you forget the changes to the rules the AFL have made to help Hawks along in the last decade... condoning all of Hodges illegal head high hits when they warranted suspension; the changing of the rule to allow Franklin to go off the mark even after the siren, and how can any opposition supporter forget after an umps whistle "free kick Hawthorn" ad nauseum. Priority picks gave them 2 players in the top 5, but stopped the rule when Hawks had enough of that advantage...I could go on...Gill and Clarkson's "coffee time"

Gill is a politician, and doesn't have an ear for the general supporters of the game. He's a failure in every way.
He has a monopoly and the game grows organically from TV rights. End of rant.

Yep. And their supporters still blab on about the "little club that could" narrative. I hate * with a burning passion but these cauliflower aren't far behind.

Good to revisit this after the trade period and whilst I think we had a good one imagine how much better our trade period could have been if the AFL had given us a proper priority pick at say 11 rather than that bullshit mature age rubbish that they gave us -tokenism at worse and really of very little benefit

People are lamenting having no picks between 1 and 60 in the draft

Well if the AFL had given us a proper priority pick then we could have used that on McGovern and kept our 2 second rounders

Stiffed again by the AFL we should never forget

people will lament because that's what people do..

people lamented we traded away too many guys that were 25+ and of decent quality. now we traded one in and he cost us a couple of 2nd rounders and again people are lamenting...
ultimately, either through the draft or via trade we have recruited a shit load of first round draft picks. we have enough there to make this work....

@#$%&! the afl and any of their @#$%&! handouts

Exactly

Priority picks of players playing the next tier down. What a joke! Pick 69 and pick 70 or something like that...and what do they expect that to do?

We would have got McGovern through with a pick 11 or our 2 2nd rounders but because we had that free hit for McAdam, he was just thrown into the equation.

I cannot believe the treatment the Commission to one of the foundation members of the VFA, VFL and AFL, and historically one of the most important institutions in Australian sport: Carlton.

The AFL Commission is lazy. Have a look at all the interviews conducted from their Executive level...Gill is always in absolute denial and always answers a question with a question or makes a general comment regardlesss of the issues surrounding the subject. He is the 'elite' in his eyes and not accountable.

What have we done giving this Commission the reign to our future? Big mistake.

The list is a beauty, albeit young in 2018.

2019 should see the renaissance.
