Just wondering if Adelaide would swap picks 8, 13 and 21 (3,641 pts) for pick 1 (3,000 pts). Would it be a good deal for us? Miss out on potentially one super star for potentially three good to very good players.

Nooo....!.The gap between players selected at 1-6 and 7-20 is significant. It might be a deep draft but that does not mean picks 1-3 are not significantly better than those later. get Walsh?

Speed is important hence Fisher, Pickett, Dow and Cunningham become important. Also Simmo and Doc can run through the middle if necessary They don't have to be super quick just not slow hence why when we play Graham and Kerridge alongside Cripps we get smashed. IMO

Just wondering, don't know if its been clarified anywhere but if that deal for McGovern goes through what does that currently leave Carlton to go to the draft with? (Assuming 42 is wrapped up in Setterfield deal)

If its pick 1 and then crickets, does that mean there's likely to be a firesale to get back in to early draft selections in this supposed "super draft"? Casboult and Jones hardly likely to yield high value are they?

Also isn't there a minimum number of draft selections that clubs need to select?

We've still got a second state player up our sleeve which might have some currency.

Silvagni doesn't sound too confident on retaining Byrne...

From afl.com

Meanwhile, the Blues face a battle to retain Irish defender Ciaran Byrne, who has returned to Ireland during the off-season.

"It's looking a little bit grim at the minute, but we're still trying to get him back here if we can," Silvagni said.

"He gets terribly homesick when he gets home and he finds it hard to come back."

We currently only have 2 senior spots on our list now that the McGovern deal has been done.
Assuming we get Setterfield and Fasolo we will have to let go a few more players.
It is looking like Graham, Kerridge and Lamb may not get new contracts.
Of course if Byrne does not come back this will free up a spot

Reckon Graham and Kerridge are in trouble, possibly Lamb and Rowe.

Best 22 is looking better already with the additions of,
McGovern, Walsh, Fas and Setterfield.

Potentially DFA like,
Barlow, Hibberd, Bugg, O’Rourke, Towers or Freeman.

Maybe Newman, Cameron Ellis-Yolmen or Tyson.

Can we land a player like Scully or Libba??

Mitch has beautiful hands can really pluck them from air, nice field kick and versatile .
If Russell can keep him on the park, I reckon he’ll be a win no doubt.

I get where you're coming from, but i just have a sense that we might be wanting to play him down back and we do need some better players down back.

The question is whether Gov would be a pick 13 in an open market and I would put money that most teams would do that trade if they wanted him, so we aren't paying overs.

I'm a bit with you on this one, not sure that we need Gov, unless they are thinking that he and McKay are our key forwards and Charlie is a kouta type midfielder that rests in forward line?

But then again we are short on quality in our forward line, if either McKay or Curnow gets injured, the pantry is pretty bare :yikes:

This year one of our worst deficiencies was converting forward entries into scores. Plenty of games we were tracking even on clearances etc just to watch the ball rebound straight back out for a coast to coast goal. Improving our scoring efficiency would have won us a few more games. McGovern adds plenty to help with that. he is mobile, he tackles, he kicks well and he has an awesome pair of hands. He also adds another dimension to our forward line and another marking target. Finally he can also go back if needed. Fantastic get by the club, fits the age profile and was a starter in probably the best forward line in the AFL, still under contract. Great get and we should all be blown away!

Firstly I agree MM is a great get for the club and he will provide another target as well as being a great intercept defender, especially for depth.
But I don't 100% agree with your view on the stat you've mentioned, as there are clubs with forward lines that will have less talent, less entries and will still win more games and score easier.
Our issue is still, small defensive forwards and midfielders. I hope MM and Fasolo have a great defensive game to stop the rebounding of the ball back out of the F50, because we are yet to address the midfield deficiency to help them lock it in. Good teams lock the ball in the F50 by means of defensive forwards and defensive midfielders, that's what stops coast to coast play more so than marking targets. Because they can't mark the ball every time, especially when the midfielders are under pressure and just bombing it in as we do (most of your F50 conversion stat) and opposition teams just flood our F50 with fitter, stronger and more mature midfielders.
Sorry to be a "Debbie downer", I would like to believe they are going to fix all our problems up forward, but we need midfielders, midfielders and more midfielders.
Let's just hope Russell can put some beef and good conditioning into the kids this off season and fix the defensive and bombing issues of this year and give our forwards a chance or even multiple chances.

What worries me about Gov are two things:

1- I am not confident that he is going to be on the Park as I have a feeling he has a Serious injury which he has not come clean about that will just flare up as soon as he start doing Serious training, thus we might not see much of him at all

2- He is an Impact Player that will take a nice mark, kick a nice goal but that's all about it. He goes unnoticed for a large chunk of games. He has not done enough for the Crows to warrant pick 13. He needs to work on his Fitness and become more involved in the Game, at least some forward pressure which we badly need.

Heaven forbid we have an impact player as opposed to a bunch of plodders and a certain Mr Russell will no doubt help the fitness/injury issues.

I can't believe people can possibly complain about pulling in mature talent that actually wanted to come to us.
