This writer gets it right. A priority pick at pick 11 is a compromise all could accept, even maybe Geelong’s Gerard Whateley.
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/aflLove how in the comments section, the highest rated comments are "@#$%&! Carlton, let them die" and "WHY DIDN'T Essendon*** GET ANY HELP, THEY WERE HURT WORST BY PENALTIES!!!". People are great.
Because we live in a Victim Olympics society these days. Essendon** didn't cheat, they were victims of drugs. Whereas Carlton tried to cheat the system, and there is nothing worse on Gods green earth than cheating the system in a socialist society, unless of coarse your in a position of power, then its required behavior. Kind of like how the AFL acts ...
Good summary from Idle above about the stupidity of this system.
Mates rates and we all listen when one of the AFL’s favoured club’s coaches, the Geelong coach goes on AFL 360, and makes a series of stupid comments that even that Russian monkey sent into space could have done better.
1-did you know that the AFL is the only competition that has a salary cap, draft and priority pick. Wow! Ok Yeah. What great info. So are these mechanisms working well together? Priority pick used once in last 10 years or so it is about as useful as fighting a tidalwave with a kid’s bucket... but according to Scotty this is the great danger of our time.
2- his 2nd point was a direct dig at Carlton for “falling down the ladder” and going to the draft. Well, Geelong took Henderson & Tuohy basically for nothing. The reason they went to your club is the likelihood of success. Did you pay market rates for them?
3- so his point is he doesn’t want PPs to Carlton,But then he wants “levers to help the smaller clubs eg North, St Kilda and interstate clubs” presumably Bne and Gold Coast.
So again his prejudices are brought to the fore.
“If we’re really looking at an even competition” says Geelong coach as if that’s his concern the week after he annihilated Fremantle by 120 points.
here’s some suggestions for you hypocrite
1-concede the priority pick (which is really a minor sideshow anyway) not needed if we can do the following:
2-no free agency trades to top 8 clubs at all.
3-no trading of valuable players out of bottom clubs (has been in top 10 of b&f) to top 8 clubs unless they hand over financial compensation and their first round draft pick.
They can have access to Kerridge type players though
