Setanta has just been promoted to the senior list.
Aisake is in his 2nd and final rookie year (?)

Both seemingly have a fantastic professional work ethic and an incredible hunger to consistantly play AFL footy.
Both are reportedly improving their strength, fitness, skill and AFL "nous" if I can use that term.

Just wondering what peoples expectations of the brothers' performances are next year and how many years of "development" do we give them until they are expected to perform at a reasonably high standard of AFL footy?

I read somewhere that international rookies can be retained for 3 years, Budzy. In Aisake's case, this may be irrelevant because he seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds, so may be elevated at the end of this year.

I would have thought that we should be happy if Santy plays 5 to 10 games and shows he can take a mark and participate in running play. Personally, I think he will be a lot better than that. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays most of the season and has some purple patches. Especially if Waitey has a problem with injuries this year (touch wood).

Care to explain? :?

I'll be happy as long as they continue to develop. I reckon SOS is right when he says we should aim for 5-10 games out of Setanta.

At this stage, I think we'd be pretty fortunate to get as many as 10 games out of Setanta. I guess I can understand where the suggestion of 'overrated' is coming from - Setanta performed brilliantly last year for the Bullants, but his capacity at AFL standard did leave something to be desired in contrast. It just makes you wonder if, like so many others, this type of player will only ever be a sensational player in the 2s (fingers crossed this is not the case with the O'hAilpins). On the other hand, I have the feeling that Setanta's true talent will blossom remarkably if he's only given more opportunities to play in the AFL.

I was thinking more in the 15-20 range. I think that if he plays for the Bullants, Aisake might play for the Bullants reserves (which happened this year).

It's not like we are going to give the flag a shake next year, stick Carlos in and as long as his head doesn't drop (which from all accounts of him seems unlikely) keep him there. We can handle mistakes and him learning as he goes. Give him time and then the footy department can see if he really will make it in the long term.

well everyone on this website speak of setanta and aisake as absolute superstars, like chris judd or buckley, i just think you guys overrate them and their as good as you guys make them out to be. Aisake hasn't even played a game and he plays for the bullants' reserves but yet you talk about him as if he is a superstar.

No, seriously - show me where everyone calls Aisake a superstar. Go on.

And on another subject, was I the only one the think "Rambo" when I read that post? :?

Which minute of the ten that he actually played at AFL level did you think was his best - the one where he layed a tackle, the one where took a mark or the one where he slotted a goal with his first kick?

From memory, that was his only contribution. And if he were that good, why did he play only 10 mins of footy?

...cue Pagan debate...

Obviously didn't want him too exposed to the 85pt loss, now, did he?

On second thoughts, that's very true. I remember whenever Betts was playing really well, Pagan would always put him back on the bench. :?

And Carlton didn't give Diesel Williams ground time when he was an 18yo. I guess that means he was shit too...

Well, Setanta IS 22...but only about 15 in footy terms.
