Pick 1 for Shiel with their second rounder coming back.

The pooch is being screwed, and we’re going woof woof.

Seriously over doing GWS favours.

We’re going to take over the contract it’s us doing the favour - so we pay unders not overs.

We’ve sent SOS to the United States to study how these scenarios work - but he doesn’t get it.

There are kids here that have better understanding of trade strategy.

I hope Kelly and Setterfield are the steaknives in that deal.

Shiel is also an unrestricted free agent and 27 next year.

Classic TC, torches and pitchforks over a trade rumour in August.

Yup. I was going to post similar but thought I'd at least scroll down first...

Not really.

I'm sure, if as some suggest, SOS and co are swayed by media, then I'm also sure they would care what their fans and members think too.

These forums provide feedback.

2018 Pick 1 = Shiel (26yo) plus pick 35ish
2018 Pick 1 = Walsh (19yo)

I'd rather offer 2019 Pick 1 for Shiel and 2018 Pick 1 for Walsh or Lukosious

Start 2019 with Shiel in the midfield with Cripps Dow Curnow Fisher Murphy SPS. If we add Walsh to that its set.

If we take Lokosious the a forwardline with Curnow McKay and Lukosious is set and we use our other picks adding more genuine midfielders.

Shiel will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2019 season. He turns 26 in March next year. #factcheck

Shiel is an absolute gun (as a Sydneysider I watch a lot of GWS) and I think his age is about right - pretty much 2 years to the day older than Paddy the First. He and Cripps would be the lead midfielders in their prime, Murph and Ed as the old heads, with SPS, Fisher, Kennedy and Dow leading the younger set. Didn't realise Shiel was a Carlton fan, so that helps. But I have to agree that a straight swap for #1 would be paying overs. I like the idea of offering a 2019 first-rounder, in the hope that GWS sees that as a top-5 pick, when in reality it could be in the 8-10 range. Alternatively, we can hope the AFL does us a favour with a very high PP that could be swapped for Shiel. If we have Shiel and Walsh next year (admittedly I know nothing of Walsh, just going on TC hype) then our mid-term prospects would suddenly be looking pretty tasty.

But why would we give away so much for one extra season?
(Assuming if he really wanted to come to Carlton we could get him for nothing at the end of 2019).

 ...The Shiel talk surprises me because I keep hearing if he moved back to Victoria he'd prefer to go to the Bombres.

Hence the need to trade for him this year and not wait for free agency.

Can't see him blocking a trade to us.

Picks 22 (2nd Dogs), 27 (2nd Crows) and 30 (2nd GWS) in this draft isn’t enough.

If we manage to give up 22 and 30 for say Pick 9 (very similar draft points) then we have Shiel, pick 8 and pick 27 from letting pick 1 go.

That’s not bad. There will be very good midfielders available at pick 8 considering some teams will go with Lukosius, 2 King boys in the first 7 picks.

The trade with GWS on its own is not enough obviously and MUST NOT be seen in isolation.

At 27, pass.

We need to add to the kids with upcoming stars around Crippa age down only.

Setterfield and or Kelly, would be good.

If the rumour re pick 1 for Shiel and GWS 2nd comes to fruition we would.

He is 26 next year!

Why does everyone feel the need to add a year to a potential target's age? :banghead:

Not Anthony Koutoufides...Essendon* people...It's probably based around the fact that Devon Smith is a good mate of Shiel's...played Under-12's rep footy together etc, etc.

Big difference when/if offering 5 year contracts, which Im sure SOS would or would have to to get him over the line. 26-30yo looks more of a safer bet for success than 27-31.
