Our attacking style in the JLTs looked good with the full list we had. Then it fell apart when injuries struck and the depth players couldn't play that style. So now we're back to parking the bus until we get our better players back in.
That's how I saw it.
JLT showed a good game plan was in the making. A combo of last years defensive platform and a new attacking flair (we were desperate to see). It looked like they were all on the same page and we had goals to cheer.
Come Round 1 against the reigning Premiers and 4 hard nuts in the middle (Cripps Ed and Kennedy and Kreuzer as the 4th following up his ball) and Murphy on the outside with Dow and SPS coming off the wings, Fisher and Murphy waxing in the guts, and we were 5 zip up. Great signs. Listen to the commentators.
Kennedy goes down with an ankle and he was doing the blocking for Crippsy or winning the ball and dishing off, then a couple of bad umpiring decisions and the Tigers got 3 back. We won the quarter despite the injury to Kennedy.,,against the reigning Premiers who were in RED HOT form in the JLT.
Kreuzer gets injured early in the 2nd, and that's 2 of our hard nuts in the middle, and the engine room has holes. We don't have anyone but kids to play inside, so we robbed the forwardline of Wright and Casboult and Charlie waxed in the ruck.
The reigning Premiers grinded their way back in the game, and the Blues showed a lot of resilience in the 3rd.
What was the margin again?
It wasn't a case of the Premiers working us out and disassembling our game plan...unless you want to see it that way. The media didn't.
