Top 4 in last year's best and fairest were:

Murphy
Docherty
Kreuzer
Gibbs
And we all know Cripps would have finished top 5, if he wasn't injured.

Now I think we made the right long-term decision to trade Gibbs, but losing 2 top-5 players will probably hurt us this year, unless a couple of players really step up. So who do you think is ready to become a top-5 player (in 2018)?

I'll go Jones, Weitering, Plowman or Marchbank (a bit concerned none of them are midfielders).

Weitering, Marchbank, Charlie and SPS are the most likely IMO.

I can't help thinking it might be another year or 2 before we see the best of SPS and Charlie. But hope I'm wrong.

Charlie is a jack-in-the box and only needs one breakout game to realize he can own the comp.
SPS is too humble for his own good and spends too much time looking for a senior player to give the footy. Bolts needs to get inside his head (as I am sure he is) and tell him he has licence to run and thrill. He is a naturally gifted, two sided, one-touch player. He may take a little longer than Charlie BUT a lot depends on the role he is given by the coach.
My top 5 for this year/
Barring injury of course,

Cripps
Murphy
Simpson
Jones
Kreuzer

For me it's Weiters or Charlie who is most likely to join Cripps, Murph, Simmo and Kreuz in our top 5

2016 for comparison:

In: Cripps, Ed..

In (2018): CHarlie surely?

As much as I love Murphy, Simmo and Kruz, for the team to grow and move forward I hope none of these three make top five this year as this will show that our young group are really steeping up and ready to take us back to the of the table , go blues

Ed Curnow still more likely to finish top 5 in 2018 than Charlie I think.

Cripps
Murphy
Kreuzer
Plowman
Ed Curnow

Off topic but is someone going to start a thread on the top eight on the ladder for this year? Or the whole ladder?

After Wednesday night I would be adding Jones.... Great turnaround for this guy.. Bravo.
I'm going
Cripps
Kruezer
Murphy
Jones
Curnow (E)

... They will All (more or less) have specific roles this year too, they will need to stand up for us

If Plowman is in our top 5 I think we are on a good pathway. Or could substitute Marchbank or Weitering for Plowman.

Gibbs and Docherty our big ouchies, it's gonna hurt us in the short term.

I got a couple of curveballs to throw at you regarding our Top 5 this year............

- Caleb Marchbank for mine is gonna make huge strides this season. He was very good last year and im confident he'll take the next step in season 18'.
- And don't forget Liam Jones, who finished 9th in our B&F from only 12 games!

***EDIT***
Well, I thought it would be a sneaky curve ball but others have commented on Caleb, so really I was throwing underarm softball type pitches. :donk:
