We can refer to the GWS boys as rejects, but the fact is the are all low draft picks in the most naturally talented team in the land. They have as much chance of making it as any new kid we draft.SOS strategy has risk involved for sure, but no more than any other draft pick.Im willing to back the guyy for a year or two.No gaurentees no matter what your position of the draft.Educated lottery at best.

Agreed.

Except for the low draft picks bit.

They're high draft picks...

Well said Mick
Guys last year out of GWS all seem fairly solid citizens and hopefully will be good players with Plowman possibly the best but think sumner also has potential
Phillips performances last year was also promising

All jokes aside with Rexy -Palmer is also another solid AFL footballer

But hopefully Pickett and or Marchbank become better that that and are stars or become elite -Micks right given their draft position we would be hoping that they become at least competent players but become better than that and more likely to do so under our system now than any time in the last 15-20 years
Go Blues

Even if a third of the GWS players turn elite we have won ten times over!

And for that reason we are heading in the right direction.
We should improve as our list improves.

Yes other teams improve too.
At what rate?

Other teams fall too.

Hawks better with the loss of Mitchell and Lewis?
With that loss will OMeara and Mitchell be easily smothered...by the like of Ed Curnow?
Other getting too old and battered, for example.

Marchbank, Pickett, Plowman excite me no end. I think they will be AA candidates.
I know Palmer will be solid, but if Philips and Sumner take the next step and Jaksch has a break out year....GWS has been absolute gold mine, minus Whiley.

For mine he just shows no signs at all of being an AFL footballer. Very unimposing. Will be pleasantly shocked if he's on the list next year. Prove me wrong KJ !

Exactly my sentiments.

I saw him play in Sydney. A few times.
I also was there to see Jaksch comprehensively beat Waite.
Now I think maybe Waite was...surprise surprise.....injured.

Jaksch showed he was a good player.
FFS he was a teenager and top 10 pick.
Now he's not a teen, and he has to get back on that improvement projectory.

Put it this way. If he really wants to succeed he will because he has mobility.
I'd say its this year or ..... Casboult and Rowe and Gorringe, and White stay ahead of him and Glass McCasker passes him and its...bye bye

Everyone seems to agree the backline is now set for the next 5-10 years, post Simpson and Rowe era:

Byrne Weitering Plowman
Docherty Marchbank Smedts

or run of Pickett Sheehan, maybe even Boekhurst Buckley or even Cuningham. What if Jaksch is added to the mix?

Whilst its important we add to scoring power up forward we need to ensure we have a midfield that delivers.

It looks to me Cuningham and Curnow will be part of the midfield in 2007 along with the repaired Murphy to add to Cripps Gibbs and Curnow.

Pick 5 and 25 have to deliver 2 First 22 (hopefully potential AA level) players, and 2 of the next 4 picks to work out.
We need that sort of luck to catch up to the current top 8.

It is this group, the midfield who delivers to the forwards.
Gotta get the midfield built asap is the priority, and the rest will sort itself out the following year's trade/clean out period.

We have invested in McKay Curnow and Silvagni for forward fire power.
Add Pickett Palmer Murphy and Gibbs to that forward line....looks good

Those one year deals would have been 3 years + under the old regime

I reckon we over hype how bad the 3 year deals were.

Carrazzo was a good player and clubman. Couldn't forsee how bad his calf was.
Waite was also an important player and plenty here whinged when he got nothing when he left via FA.
