Also, the Dogs have the smallest recruiting team in the AFL.This is a conscious decision to keep it small, not a money decision..............cant argue at the moment.

Mick,

It is never going to happen. Come November SOS will have his BFF in place and that will go on for as long as SOS has his Job.

Carlton's next 3-5 years will live and die by the SOS/Brodie team.

Well Cazz, this time last year we made a massive playy for him (Fact ).If they wanted him that bad they shouldnt give up if they rate him so highly..........................and yes,he was almost over the line.

Mick, he was ours. The AFL banned him for 12 months for gambling on AFL games whilst on the GWS payroll. A big no-no as we all know.

Agree with most suggestions here, we have the right man as coach now and are doing things right off the field.

Just need to keep it going and not worry about external noise.

We won't copy the dogs, the lesson is to have a plan being works best with the personnel you have and get everyone going in the same direction.

It will take a while for us, our list isn't good, but if we do everything right we could see finals by 2019

Agree, although why not 2018?

I thought of that too, we should be aiming for that. Always aim high

In your opinion Cazz, regardless of the friendship with SOS, do you rate Brodie as a quality recruiter?

I don't know him well enough re his recruiting thought process. He has been in the industry along time.

Wayne Brittain had him as his trusted confidant when he was at the Blues and I think Brittain is considered a very astute thinker of the game by those in the know. Brodie is also a close friend of Ross Lyons who doesn't suffer fools so based on those two friendships one would think he has some football smarts.

I have always found him to be a very easy going with a very good sense of humor. My verdict would be .......Extremely Street Smart. He and SOS certainly put together a great GWS list regardless of the free kicks they got earlier on. Davis, Ward, Scully, Patful, Shaw, Mumford and Griffin have been savvy picks. They basically had Buddy across the line until the 11th hour.

Regards Cazzesman

Thanks for that Cazz!

What we have learnt from the premiers is that it takes more than talent to win premierships ... they have their fair share of battlers but they battle as one and play their roles very well.

They go about their football busting their gut knowing everyone else is doing the same ... the most important thing in any teams make up.

When they ran out yesterday there was a lot of trust and belief in each other.

What I learnt (again) is that in close finals where both midfields are first class, only two things really seem to make a difference. A player with that extra bit of toe who can break a line. And a player who can take a contested grab. Everything else seems to even itself out.

No premiership coach in league history has ever taken more than five years to at least make a prelim final. Four to go.

Interesting!
May say more about the list they inherit too... Interesting nonetheless

Hear mention of their handball club?
Don't think I've seen look-away or over the head handballs to that extent before.
Outnumber at the contest, in tight, quick hands and unexpected handoffs catching the opposition by surprise
Coaches smart and creative enough to push the envelope tactically

Know who their handball coach is. Initials are JR.

Yep, our own Jordy Russell.

Revealed in the HUN today.

It is not ideal that the guy you want to head up recruiting is banned for a year. If we can get by for 12 months without him then maybe we should not have him at all,

im amazed why posters ask why - brodie is not that good anyway - just a mate of sos

the president is sending the message that we don't need a recruiter

recruiting is a full time job that is different to list management which is sos's job

we are the amateur club

One thing it does do is that it sells hope. If the bulldogs can get their act together, Carlton can.

I have admitted I don't know his skill set as I have never worked with him. Why do you say he is 'not that good anyway'? Based on what anecdotal information or data?

Where is this message from the President to be found? What expertise does he have in the field of AFL Recruiting to know if the Club needs a full time Head of Recruiting? Ultimately the President is just Fan with money who was voted in. What is his football experience in the area of Recruitment?

What we learnt is the core of a premiership comes via the draft including 2nd and 3rd round picks and then topped off by trades. I hope Carlton is not doing the opposite

Maybe they just got lucky this time.
A bye before the finals and on the good end of the umpires.
They certainly were not the best team this year so maybe there is hope for us afterall.
