Guernsey - I'd hope they stick with the same design. If it ain't broke...

Players - No idea of available talent, but would think speed and skill is the type of player you'd fill the team with.

Thoughts...

Guernsey should be the same as the men wear. They are playing for Carlton.

My guess is there'll be a slight alteration to the guernsey. Good for merchandising and revenue.
Maybe a pink monogram, although every team seems to just put in a dash of pink to make it a female guernsey.

If you're not keen on the idea of Carlton having a women's team maybe avoid posting in the Women's team thread

I have a feeling Mozzie would be well and truly welcome at Muirfield Golf Club

MASSIVE congrats to the club!

Huge Huge achievement.

Gotta say though. Don't like the format. 6 weeks doesn't give it justice.
Would rather see them play each team twice with a Top 2 playing off in a grand final.

Start late Jan, end in late march.

Pleased to see we are keeping our "foundation club" status.

Six weeks is a bit light on, but you'd expect there'll be a few format changes in the early years as they test the waters and the game and talent further develops.

Agree season seems too short, but I suppose they are trying to position it in a part of the year where there is a bit of a vacuum in the sports calendar in this country. That has at least 3 benefits:
1. Less competition for media and fan attention;
2. Means players already playing in competitions in other sports even at top level may be able to fit in playing in this competition; and
3. Limits the impact of this competition on other sports, ie we may not rob cricket/netball/whatever of player X, she can fit in both competitions. One of the knocks on the womens league is that it may rob other sports of players to those sports' detriment.

I would prefer 7 rounds so everyone plays everyone else and then either 2 weeks of finals or if the extra week just cant be found then a top 2 grand final with preferably a third and fourth playoff perhaps as a curtain-raiser if the GF is not itself a curtain raiser to the opening round AFL. I suspect we could find the extra week by having 7 rounds, then 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 on the week after NAB challenge ends and the GF as a curtain raiser to the AFL season opener, although probably not on the Thursday night if there is such a game fixtured, unless both semis were on Friday night which would perhaps work if they were in different states

I am over the moon Carlton will field a women's team as a foundation club (again).

Here in Sydney our team where Mark Maclure came from, the Eastern Sydney Bulldogs we have 60 women playing for the first time this year. The standard is really good and there's a bit of agro shown

Keep our jumper with something on it to acknowledge the women's team, sure.

Doesn't seem to be a long enough season. 8 weeks?

My family will make the effort to watch a few of their games each year.

Now we have The AFL Blues, The VFL Northern Blues, and The AFL Women's Blues. I love it.

Go Blues.

People will be surprised with the skill level and the aggression this women will play with. With coaching and professional support they will get better!!!!!!

Just go with the same guernsey as the men, making something 'female' by adding pink is embarrassingly clichéd.

As a father of a 5 year old girl, this has come at the perfect time!! Im absolutely over the moon about it.
The Guernsey should stay the same for both the Men's and Women's team. They are both representing the same team, and the Women's team shouldn't be treated like some gimmicky side project.

I like the idea of the shorter season, in summer.

Could be a Big Bash style marketing.

Hopefully they play at night.

I'd say that's exactly what they're going for. The timing is great too considering many are at fever pitch for the AFL season to start soon after.

Feb/March can be incredibly hot, they'd have to play most games late afternoon/evening

I'd like to see nab challenge games as the prelude to each match at least for the first couple of seasons so hardened football supporters can really get a glimpse of what the woman offer.

Watched the Melb v dogs game last year and it was a lot more skilfull than I thought it would be.
