So bottom 6 teams don't have to play a top 6 team twice...........but even though we came LAST, we still have to play Sydney twice?

You're surprised that the AFL doesn't follow its own formula?

This IS the AFL formula.
Sydney plays GWS twice. 8 points but getting harder.
So they play us twice 8 points and steady for a while.
Sydney starts the year with 16 points guaranteed. It fits the need the AFL has that Sydney stay in the top 4 if possible but in the top 8 anyway.
They only have to win eight more games and they're OK.
Suns? tick
Brisbane? tick.
StK? tick.
Melbourne? tick.
Essendon**? tick.

There's five more and all from the bottom teams.
So now we're up to nine gimmes for Sydney and they still haven't played anybody of note.

Do I need to go on?

This is a good formula for the AFL.

I wonder what they have devised for their other project team North Melbourne.

lets face it...the fixture makes no difference...
not this year anyway...!

lets play the better teams...a tennis player doesn't
win Wimbledon by hitting up against a wall...they
need to play the Nasals'...the Federers'...the
Bagdatiss'...!

let the season roll on folk...and hope that Bolton needs
glesses...and the Seppos tell china to meet them
behind the shelter sheds after the bell....!

First look at the fixture looks okay.

9 games at the MCG, 7 at Etihad (including 5 in a row)
Whilst we play St Kilda, Essendon*, Collingwood, Brisbane and the Swans twice.

Very family friendly. Lots of afternoon timeslots. I like, but do wish more of them were Saturday instead of Sunday.

It's great for me, but yeah the club's certainly been put in its place.

Good. Further reinforcement that this is ground zero and the build is on. The club and playing group will need to earn their stripes.

We're going to be crap anyway. Why put us in the spotlight and maximise the negative publicity?

Let us rebuild in secret like the Dogs were forced to. Then force the AFL to give us a nice fixture when we warrant it.

That's one way of looking at it.

The other is there is a battle for Melb based teams within the AFL and we just went from one of the big clubs, to one of the shit clubs.

If you think we are going to win our place back through hard work, I reckon you're dreaming.

Seems to be how it worked for the Dogs. Have you seen their fixture?

We're predicted to be shit next year, when we are shit our crowds are crap and TV audiences are down, so I wouldn't put us in primetime either.

We've got a huge dormant supporter base though, so when we start doing well in a year or two our crowds will be huge and TV audiences high. AFL will happily capitalise on this and give us a heap of primetime matches like they did this year.

There's not some conspiracy theory to push us out, this fixture makes sense for all parties. Don't underestimate the damage it did to our brand to have our thrashings on Friday night each week.

I agree.
Must say I couldn't care less about our draw in 2016.

Hope the club kept a copy of this email they sent to all SA members this time last year. That way all there is to do is change the dates....

Dear '74

Firstly, I’d like to thank you for your continued support of Carlton Football Club.

As an interstate member I appreciate sometimes it can be challenging to get to games in Melbourne, and disappointing when the AFL doesn’t fixture any games in your state. Carlton has played a ‘home’ game in Adelaide every season since 1996, which was the last time the Blues weren’t fixtured a game in your state.

The Blues love playing in Adelaide, and have a proud and rich history of South Australian born players pulling on the Navy Blue, and making it their own. I think it’s important for our members to know we are also disappointed in not coming to Adelaide in 2015, and look forward to working with the AFL on the 2016 fixture.

With that disappointment close at mind, the support of our interstate members is still extremely important to the Club so we hope to keep you on board in 2015.

Today on the website Trigg, has addressed the issue:

For the second year in a row Carlton will not make the trip to Adelaide, which Trigg says is “extremely disappointing”.

“Our South Australian members and supporters are very important to us and we have expressed our frustration to the AFL that once again we will not be travelling to Adelaide. We certainly asked for a game is South Australia.

“We have already engaged our South Australian members this morning via email to let them know we’ll deliver an activation in Adelaide during the season.”

I have no idea what "delivering an activation" means as I let my membership lapse last year for a number of reasons, so haven't received it. If anyone has a copy could they please post it here, as I'd like to see what 'explanation; they gave this time.

I know there are a number of factors that need to be taken into account when fixturing, but how hard can it be? Last year their were two Perth games, this year 1x as well as 2 in NSW, 1 in TAS and 2 in QLD. Take one off, and add one to us. Easy. In fact we haven't had the 'double' since 2010.

It makes no sense that 12 months ago they claimed they will "work with AFL about fixing this", yet now despite apparently asking, couldn't get it through as it's hardly a request that is logistically difficult to organise, give us an unfair advantage over other sides, or would make an already uneven draw any more lopsided?....

Remember that email I posted above wasn't a response to anything direct from myself, it was done to address all SA members, so they obviously thought the issue was serious enough to go to such lengths.

I could go on and on about the untapped market here in SA, but I've done it before and spoke at length to then membership/marketing manager (John DeRango?) about it 15 years ago in regards to the opportunity they had to market the club as the biggest in Australia. They didn't get it.

Would see more Carlton paraphernalia around the traps, then all of the other non SA clubs combined. It's market is untapped.

I realise I'm all over the place with that post. Potting the club for not doing more, yet I probably should be aiming my angst for the AFL.....unless of course the local conspiracy theories about Trigg not wanting to come home are correct.....

Port and Adelaide home games will near sell out regardless of who they are playing, and how many Carlton supporters go, same with Freo and West Coast however we will pull numbers to the Qld, NSW and Tas games to boost crowd figures and revenue hence why 5 of our 6 games are at those venues....

On the flip side Carlton v Adelaide at the MCG, as opposed to AAMI, will get 10,000 away Adelaide Crow fans travelling over.

I'm morphing into tap '79.....
