Should be trying to emulate what Coll did last year when they traded Beams. Not sure if Gibbs or Murphy have same currency but from memory Coll got Pick 5 & Pick 25 plus Crisp.

If Dangerfield goes from Adelaide I'd look at something like their compensation pick - say Pick 11, their second pick and a fringe type like Lyons for Gibbs.

Does he look like Ed? Maybe we could get him to withdraw from the draft, send Ed to a Tibetan monastery ona ten year silent retreat, and play Charlie as Ed, just tell everyone he has had the biggest preseason ever and been working hard on his skills.

lol. charlie is 192cm and 95 kilo i think. ed would have to go on one of dank's diets to achieve that outcome.

Our list is a shambles currently.

Speaking to someone that watches draftees, it is meant to be a weak draft and the best kid is tied to Sydney's academy.

It's no secret SOS has discovered that the list is worse than he thought and he is shocked at how much some of the players are being paid.

It will take more than one man to realise this, but he at least has been involved at another club and seen how you need to build a list, with salaries etc.

Who are the right people at fault for our overpaying? McKay? Still Swann? The board? Sticks? Synbad?

Gibbs, Murphy and Thomas would be our three highest paid players.

Shouldn't be too much of a shock, because it's in a very similar state to when he retired.

Given it's known Gibbs is on mid 500s close to 600, Thomas on 625....I'm not sure if you think those 3 names were meant to be surprising. Pretty sure most would've guessed those 3.

This is what I'd do:

Jammo to the Tigers for their 2nd round pick (replacement for Rance)
Gibbs to the Crows for their first round pick from the Saints for Sloane.
Henderson to the Doggies or kangas for their first rounder.

This will give us two picks inside 10, 1 mid range and two early second rounders = 5 inside 25

2 picks inside 10 is a nice goal, but which of Adelaide, North and the Bulldogs is going to finish outside the 8?

They all look like they're be in the hunt.

Why would the Saints give Adelaide a pick for free agent Sloane?

Sloane isn't FA.

So he isn't.

Why then would Adelaide essentially take a swap of Gibbs for Sloane and we'd take the pick in an ordinary draft instead?

Any chance we can send Hendo, Yazz & whoever we have to trade for picks to Freo? Love Freo. Would be nice to still pretend they're ours after they leave. Will be easier if they're all at the same team - they can be my adopted team.

Hendo will go to a Geelong or a Richmond. If we are any good we should get a first round for him. That's fair.

Yarran could easily get a first round pick from WCE. If we could get deals like that it would be a great effort.

I would also test the waters with Menzel. If someone offers a first round pick or a swap for a talented kid I would jump at it. IMO he's a finisher in a good side. Not someone we build a side around.

In reality then if we could trade a couple of players for second and third round picks that would help. I have been told from people in the know is that this draft could have some real depth through to 40-50?

That would also allow us to keep Gibbs & Murphy although I would be happy to trade one of those for the right deal. i.e first round pick and a young player.

Other players that may gain picks between 2nd & 4th round are Walker, Jamison, Everitt & Tuohy. Reality is there isn't much.

The core I would then start build around in 2016 would be:

Murphy/Gibbs
Cripps
Docherty
Bell
Jaksch
Whiley
Giles
Smith
Boekhurst
White
Byrne
Sheehan
Kruezer

plus I would keep the kids in

Walsh
Fields
Gower
Holman
Graham

The rest are up for grabs.

I would also consider recruiting a tough leader type player to the club and make them captain. I'm not sure who but if we could somehow find a Selwood, Boak, Hodge or Ward type to lead our young group I would jump at them.

Maybe a Hanneberry is what we need?

Just ideas but we need to start and start now!

I'd get rid of Gibbs before Yarran or Menzel.

Although for an early pick or Motlop and one of their up and comers I would let Menzel go.

I agree not someone you would build a team around but in no way is Gibbs either.

Psych, you've listed 13 players as your 'core' for 2016 and I'd say at least half of them have massive question marks on their ability to be league footballers. We need a few more proven players amongst that core if we want to remain competitive in any way. For mine guys like Everitt, Menzel and Tuohy need to remain as part of our core. We still need some experience and leadership too, so Jamison is likely to stay on, and contractually we're committed to Thomas as well. Add those 6 guys into your core and it looks a little more competitive.
