Quietly I don't think the players would want to see Mick go.. But a change will bring on a certain freshness into this diabolical equation.
The problem is nobody will survive it.
People look to port and say they did it.
What they don't take into amount are a few things.
The club set about arresting itself for its honesty and didn't look to the benefactor
Next was there was some leadership on the ground and off
Third.. Their recruiting had been very good for some years
Fourth.. They came into the competition and almost immediately won a flag without the kind of handouts gws GC got... And they had won a flag inside the last decade
They arrested the culture slide early... We didn't!
Apples and oranges

They were saying the salary cap sanctions would be many years.
What we have done to ourselves has been many times worse...
Laziness.. Narcissistic... So devoid of any truthfulness and foresight.
It's killed us

Agreed.

Brought in 4 new board members, new high performance staff, new President, new CEO.....

Mick Malthouse and all his staff need to go at the end of the year, we are a wooden spoon club and he has driven us into the ground.

Sh*t recruiting, terrible retention of players, a f*cking basket case.

Malthouses gameplan is atrocious. Kick sideways, backwards, down the predictable boundary line to a 3 on 1 against. It seems our players haven't been taught how to get out of the press.

No spirit in the team, soft players, captain Murphy hasn't been the same since 3-4 years ago, all f*cking pretty boys.

The players are now in self preservation mode and not doing the things for the team, it is a disgrace to watch. Carlton were outscored today by Eddie Betts and Jeff Garlett along. Lowest crowd in ten years.

I could keep going on and on, but I don't think anyone could mount an argument to keep Malthouse around, seriously.

Nah.
Rhino
It is probably much much worse than we are making out.
It's like we don't really have a team.
Then we have a coach who completely blames the team.
'it's not me..it's not me.it's them!!!!!'
that does not give much reason to hope.
when you already have not brought out the best with what you have,
and then you blame everyone but yourself..
that is what I'd call hopeless.
with out hope.
that is us.

Its not hopeless though.

Its a shit situation, but the AFL will bail us out for the same reason they did Melbourne, Port Adelaide, etc.

Are we going to improve as a club off our own volition? Nah, we'll improve because its in the best interests of the powers that be to ensure we do, kicking and screaming.

I would like to apologise for misleading the public on the abilities and moral fabric of Mick Malthouse. The man as repeatedly mentioned is toxic. There are a couple of things I'd like to mention here. Ive listened to his post match press conferences religiously and I've always felt this uneasiness. I couldnt quite put my finger on it, until now.
He is one of those people you're brain is telling you you should like but the heart is beating to a different drum. As the heart has the ability to do, it often sees through the bullish!t before the brain catches up a year or two later.
What I've now inherited is a strong sense of dislike. And I think that's exactly how the players are feeling. Their brains have caught up to their hearts.
Once again in the P.C today he spoke like a true politician. Full of contradiction, bold vague statement and blame avoidance. This used to work pre-internet days in politics and sport but not now. Players and the public are now well informed and well skeptical of junk talk compared to 10 years earlier because the web, social media, 24 news churn, etc has made it crucial for us to develop this skill to survive in it. This is the reason why Mick is 'past it' because the players have seen through him while he thinks that they are just 'wayward young men from the 1980s' that need an occasional good clip under the ear and some clever tongue talk from an older fella regardless of whether it makes sense or is consistent.
One measure of the problem is to look at some of the players and see how they compare to the coach when interviewed. Some of the modern players are more socially insightful and know how to treat the audience. People plain and simple just don't want to hear politically contrived communication any longer. They've had enough. Watch a Ross Lyon interview and you'll see how he is acutely aware of the publics perceptibility and that as a consequence you have to be even smarter and more elusive ( though sometimes even he gets caught out).
Whether be the coach of your footy club or the leader of the country you simply can't just talk the talk anymore , let alone talk the talk that seems incoherent week to week at press conferences. This has served Mick's survival until now, but the time is up. It's not the game that's necessarily moved past him ( though his game plan is very stubborn) , it's the communication age that's moved past him.
Carlton is not a list worthy of the bottom. We have been poorly administered but this is not to a degree that we have a lack of talent so bad that we languish on the bottom. Micks lack of connect by virtue of his inability to understand the heightened awareness of the modern audience has taken us there from a starting position significantly higher up the ladder.

Surely performances like today will force Loguidice to reneg on his "mick is safe until end of season" call?
Surely.

Doubt it em, he's managed to say plenty of dumb stuff...not saying anything is even easier!
Besides keeping MM is the best chance of getting a record crowd....assuming we have a "rotten fruit Sunday" fan day

Mick's press conference reached all new levels of hilarious tonight. I actually thought he was intentionally taking the piss out of himself & the MC.

Seemed to want to focus on GWS more than Carlton.

Would like someone to ask about Thomas's input more often.

And Carrot's.

The President and his men announce a rebuild... round 2 in the final year of a coaching contract... you get nothing but mixed messages and confusion.

You either tell the coach that WINS won't be the deciding factor in a possible re-appointment or you sack him... then you "play the kids", if that is the goal.

Problem is this board want WINS and a rebuild at the same time :screwy: ...bigger problem is the bulk of the supporter base demand this as well.

Mick knows that it's only wins that will save his career... so he picks the best 22 to try and achieve this... if you put you hatred aside for a minute you'd be able to understand, even if you don't agree.

People that want Mick to step down and forgo $$$... would you? we chased him... we threw the cash at him.

Is it self serving? possibly... the same way the board deflects blame... players leave for more cash... or Bryce Gibbs only plays well in contract years etc

Welcome to Carlton 2015... everything about this club is self serving.

DNS replaced WINS years ago.

I sat behind the bench. Carrots carried an injury into the game. Judd limped off injured in the warm up and looked visibly sore everytime he came to the bench.

And Mick wonders why we got out run? Playing Carrots etc was stupid - playing him when he's injured over Graham or Holman (who deserved a game after great form in the NBs) is just pathetic.

His directive is to try to run and stem the flow...
Club isms bleeding even though Jim thinks it's not.
Which is why mark is a bafoon talking about a rebuild from round two but the direction set is the opposite.

Though I haven very little doubt that sometime very soon we will have to go the rebuild route completely

Is not very far IMO

But the real beltings will commence then.. this will continue on for three years... And beyond...
Then when we emerge from darkness we will only see dusk and go back into another period same as this period same as the last period..
Why?
Because we will be the same...

It's hard to achieve greatness...!
But very easy to be crap...
There is nothing we lead the AFL in off field..

So the AFL will step in to help us improve.
Do people realise how many clubs the AFL is carrying right note?
It's in their mandate to make the competition even.
How will they do this outside of denigrating the game even more and then bailing out itself even more?
Sport is about competition.. This is stage managed wwf
