SOS coming in is a start. I think the whole coaching staff has to go. Who is the next Hinkley, Clarkson or Beveridge?

Also, need a great development coach with a young list. Personally I would go after Brendan McCartney (who I believe did a great job developing young Bulldogs) or maybe someone like Leigh Tudor or even Mick Turner?

Whoever it is lets get a process in place, a criteria and interview as many as possible.

The GWS boy both might both prove to be busts - FWIW don't think they will be - but to call it after a combined total of 3 games at the club beggars belief.

I really believe it's not Malthouse's fault, It's so much deeper.

Over the past decade we have had Pagan, Ratten & Malthouse.

Both Pagan & Malthouse are tough uncomprimising coaches with impressive records before they came to Carlton. Ratten a new coach who was more one of the boys. He let them run and play there own game.

Pagan & Malthouse tried to instill a toughness and a finals ready gamestyle that our group simply can't or couldn't handle.

IMO it boils down to not only have we got a poor list but it lacks leadership and a desire to do what it takes. Let's be honest, Murphy, Gibbs, Henderson, Yarran are talented but in comparison to the AFL top players they are soft. Look good when things go our way or against weak opposition but when it comes to a time to stand up they go missing. After 3-4 games Cripps makes them look weak by the way he goes about it. Docherty as well.

So what do we do? Look at our key forward options in Casboult, Jones, Watson. All big units who should have impacts but are mentally soft. Will never make it. Simply don't have the mental tougness.

Look at the players we recruit from other clubs. Jones, Everitt, Warnock, Henderson, Dick, Tutt. All have talent but are soft. Why do you think we keep playing Ellard, Armfield, Curnow? No where near as talented but at least they have a crack. Why do we get excited about Buckley? Has obvious weakneses in his game but he has a go and he's our smallest player. It's embarrassing.

Our key players seem to be introverts. Where our our leaders? IMO Simpson is probably the best. Love the way he goes about it but past his best. Judd leads by example but is quiet.

Really, who do we have???? Where is our Selwood, Hodge or Boak? We don't have even one let alone a group of driven individuals. No wonder we are crap and we don't play for our coaches. We aren't mentally tough enough and IMO we never will be.

Whether MM is still coach next year I don't know but the criticsm of him IMO is over the top. These issues were going on long before he came to the club. The is a reason he looked bereft of answers Friday night. I remember Pagan being the same. The more they push the players the worse they get. They are weak. So what do they do?

It's time to call it for what it is. We are mostly a bunch of soft self centred players that wouldn't get a look in at a top club. Time to cull and bring in players that have not only talent but drive and desire for team success.

What's worse it we play a pathetic Brisbane this week at Etihad. We will win it. We will run free and kick goals and celebrate. Murphy & Gibbs etc will pick up kicks and look like millionaires. The pressure will then go off us for a while. I hope internally it won't.

Watching the doggies makes it pretty clear.

For the third time in a row the board have appointed a senior coach without a thorough process that's past it or not ready that can't get the players to buy in.

yeah, thats' how I feel as well, psych. our playing list lacks balance. it's too heavily weighted in downhill/ bruisefree types. watching norf play last night, and they got towelled up ... and honestly never looked in it.

but by christ, they have a dig and each player to a man, rolls his sleeves up and puts his body on the line and his head over the pill when his number is called. nobody in a roos jersey shirked it when it was their turn, even though they were down by 40 points.

or what about the norf and Port game?!! that was the most brutal regular season game i've seen. two sets of players who were ready to practically die for their cause.

i'm getting to an age where i honestly struggle to remember carlton running out a hard, tough uncompromising bunch of players who answer the bell on any level once they cross the white line. our players – minus a handful – are a pure embarrassment to our jersey.

and don't forget for a second, it is our jersey. players come & go ... we are the ones who remain here. we're the ones who pump our money into this hot mess. we're the ones watching something we love be defiled by a bunch of self-obbssessed, prettyboy peahearts with no concept of what it means to be carlton.

i can't stand it anymore.

Psych a lot of what you say is true but the only thing I was looking forward to when micky was appointed was the hard edge he was going to bring to the club
Where is it? He didn’t even bring that.

He made murphy the captain which was always going to be a disaster, but not only a bad decision but he hasn’t followed up in instilling any leadership qualities into him after that.
You say we have mentally soft players, well that’s part of a coach’s job to make them hard. He hasn’t done anything to sculpt out a harder edge into these players. It’s been three years and no alteration to their capability, forcefulness or confidence. Three years. Other coaches make an impact immediately. Bottom dwellers like the dogs, port and Melbourne have shown a vast improvement in commitment in a short space of time that demonstrates that they are on the right track, we are not after 3 years of Malthouse.

All he does is complain to the media about in house issues and openly criticise the playing group which is disparaging and embarrassing. How would you like to play under these conditions for a person like him? I know I wouldn’t.
His game plan is dysfunctional and his arrogance to divert from that is plain irresponsible. Everybody else except for micky have moved on from this insipid (so called finals footy) game plan but he refuses. It makes us second rate and restricts the development of our younger players.

The players are far from perfect but he has failed in his time to grow this list of players and to uphold his part of the arrangement.
His time with us has been an unmitigated disaster and it’s time to make a fresh start.

I just hope the next leader we pick has the right motivation, unselfish purposes and clear direction on our future.

Players all saying Mick has a lot of passion for the game.
I've heard about 7 or 8 say it now.
Sounds like they have discussed this amongst themselves as a stock answer when asked about Mick and his future

maybe all the things you want (and wished MM had been able to instil) can't happen until the club reflects those very same qualities?

Perhaps we need real leadership from the board, not easy solutions that never work, then we might see a coach (chosen via an intelligent process) have success instilling a fierce, combative, leadership driven playing group and intuitive, strong, relevant game plan...we might see real recruitment strategies, real development of youth...maybe even a semblance of an AFL club, not the old, doddering, senile VFL giant well passed its heydays. We march to the old drums, our nodding heads filled with the old glories, our shriveled chests desperately sending thin blood to a heart teetering on the abyss of death...but hey, MM didn't work, lets just get another bunny to shoot.

Don't know what game you were watching but the North blokes shit themselves after Hodge and Lewis went the knuckle. Ducking their heads, going back half hearted with one arm for marks. Have a look around before going for the ball.
Hodge and Lewis will get a holiday but they changed the course of the game. It was even until that point and Hawthorn kicked away.
I know you like to kick our players but lets not invent stuff to do it. Its not like we need to at the moment anyway.

It's pretty obvious if the players were behind Mick, they would have gone in harder on Friday.

I don't think our overall predicament is Mick's fault, but I do think he's lost the players.

There seems to be one common factor here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the players !!

I'm putting my faith into Malthouse to do what ever he needs to do to turn things around.

IMO, looking at Geelong when Mark Thompson left in 2010, Geelong could have replaced him with any coach
and they would have still been a top 4 side.

Let the clean out begin !!!

Wrong. Ratten was sacked because he destroyed the list, didnt develop youth and with the good playerd handed to him had a one dimensional game plan.

At the time he was sacked, the board and administration thought we had a top 4 list. They sacked Ratten because they thought we'd under performed by not making finals. Do you ever get sick of making shit up?
It seems every one of your posts is either full of inaccuracies or just plain full of shit.

And therein lies the ark of the covennant BV

I have no faith in what our board and administration's thinking is on any football matter except the matter of making another significant mistake with their thinking

Sadly, some of us were seduced by this thinking (me included). No more...

While the current board set up exists, we have NO future to look forward to.

Been coaching for 3 decades just for shits and giggles?

Not saying he's shouldn't accept blame but it's easy to blame one person for all your problems when there's a deep dislike for them... see Tony Abbott

Next year we'll have someone else in charge and I just wonder what the comments on here may be

Maybe I'm wrong... the new guy may succeed in making Gibbs into a battering ram... 4 times a charm?

Totally agree. North were beaten by Top 4 force & dare l say it brutality. North are not a Top 4 team.
They even lost to us last year!
