I think that Thursday night was about how close I thought we would get before the game but. Watching the other games has been alarming in terms of where we are
Apart from North did any other team give their supporters less hope than our performance on Thursday night
Early call but have dogs and dees gone past us and in terms of personnel is our list really only better than Aints and maybe GWS
I know it's early but do we see another 0-3 or 0-4 start and even if it is 1-3 can we recover with this group
I'm generally positive and take two of my family every week but all of us on Thursday were demoralised and thought our short and medium term future is bleak
Not their fault but for instance does any other club have as weak ruck combo as wood and Rowe

Does any other club have a forward line that seems so impotent

Sorry to be negative but going to Cats and Hawthorn today and am sick of them dominating and us being in the ordinary also-ran category

Would have to agree Frank
I watched most games & I loved the Freo v Port game although I felt sick of the thought of what they will do to us
Adelaide looked awesome as well
Hope we will perform better against WC

I will not go to the game against the cheats nor watch it or listen to it

No I feel we have more to show than what we managed on Thursday. Didn't get out of 3rd gear and then switched all the way back to 1st before the end of the half.

Will give us another 3 weeks before making any big calls on the team structure.

Yep, this year will fair about as well as last year (which was awful). Not enough talent, too many holes in the list etc etc

I think you are spot on WOW.

It's lack of talent and what appears to be no heart. Not sure how you run out of legs in game 1. But there you go.

Frank It's the same as it's been for the last 15-20 years. Poor management, poor recruiting and and poor list management. We have some handy players, some work horses but lack class and quality depth.

Whether we were coached by MM, Ratten or even Clarkson we need to rebuild our list. We've been saying it for a decade.

At the top end we are average and where is the hope with kids coming through?

This year we could win anywhere between 4-8 games. Doesn't matter as we are so far behind the top 4 and are way behind the clubs that are building like GWS, Gold Coast, Bulldogs etc.

Given our position I simply don't understand the recruitment of Thomas, Jones, Tutt, Boekhurst etc. Are we challenging? The list needs to be stripped bare and started again. We seem to be the only club that doesn't undertsand the draft.

Personally, I've lost the passion and hope at the moment and I know a lot of people that are the same. Just look at our membership.

It's not that we have stopped loving the club or won't support it but every year it's the same. Change is needed. We need to admit our position, address it and then plan for the next Carlton era.

PLEASE

I was really excited, more so than I've been before our openers for a few years. this was hugely tempered when the team was announced.

no forward structure or target. A midfield of defensive first, uncreative, non-line breaking runners who have poor disposal skills. lack of modern footballers. no small forwards (betts & garlett now gone, wtf?)

then on the night our rancid gameplan came to back to fruition. No runners, no spread, too slow, no forward pressure to lock the ball in, bombing it long to no one ... all the shortcomings of the past coming back to haunt us.

Mick saying after the game that he knew we'd struggle to score, losing waite, garlett and betts the top scorers from the last 3 years all gone. admitting players don't know one another, yet he constructed this list of 'strangers' ...

in another observation, did anyone watch the adelaide game? Eddie Betts is fit, he is ripped and he was running through the midfield at will all day long.

why does our side look buttery, slow and play soft? meanwhile betts is ripped and fitter than ever?!!

we are a rabble. lost in middle of the table wilderness, not here not there ... we are a joke outfit off the field and on.

this is the most disengaged i've ever been from the club, and I watched my first game as a 5yr old at Princess Park in 1980.

hate to say it ... but they've pretty much lost me. can't ever recall being this pissed off by them.

i'm more excited about watching the cats & hawks then i am watching anymore of "us" ...

If we match last years 7.5 wins l would be surprised.

Just as surprised as last Thursday's lack of run, fitness, determination, etc.

Just as surprised as the team selections. BTW can anyone please explain how Gibbs got a gig?
He was clearly hampered by his shoulder but still managed to convince the medicos? team selection panel that he was right to go?

How does this happen? And then he has a chuckle at his error during the game?

What was the joke? I'm not laughing.

Yes

Knew we were average and could maybe hope for 8th at best. Still think that, but would rather finish 13th-16th than 9th-12th

This team have stopped being fit since that clown Buttifant came to the club. Previous to that we were shit, but we did run out games well.

I predicted 16th prior to the season and still think around that, it could be worse or maybe slightly better.

Thursday night reminded me of how we were mid 2000s, as soon as other sides up the intensity we can't go with them. as we don't have the talent.

Psych said 4-8 wins, I was thinking 6, so we are on the same page.

I thought 10th. Its lower now. What is amazing is we all know our season is over after round 1. What i care about is developing kids. The side we picked last week isnt the future. David king said " If Malthouse makes the finals with this list, he deserves a medal".

Early days but that was an ordinary performance against a side that didn't get going for a qtr and a half, and are average at best. What A graders do we have? Judd is still our best player and is in his last year. We have a lot of battlers and few youngsters who look like becoming stars. I think any assessment of u/25 talent wd have us close to 18th. The future looks a long way away. 4-8 wins, no finals, no joy.
