Not sure how anyone can say that Pagan is protecting his coaching record Synbad. The difference between 3 and say 5 wins in 2006 is negligible in a historical sense - I'd have thought the decision to retain Whitnall was a recognition of his Top 3 Performance in 2005, enduring popularity amongst Carlton fans (probably off this site!) and real shortage of experience on the list, perhaps in full anticipation of Lappin and Campo moving on.

Pagan's coaching record has been destroyed of late because of our Club - if he really wanted to protect it he wouldn't have signed for a further 3 years.

It is amazing how wuickly denis has fallen from favour. I was disappointed with the Trade week, but unless you land a big fish I think trade week always disappoints.

I still think this year is the real test of Denis.

Eh..

I don't think that this:

Denis could have been justified with the long stick approach for as long as he was prepared to move out players who refused to conform to his philosophies.
Unfortunately for Denis he is in my opinion attempting to protect his coaching record.
He had the opportunity to move on a couple of more players who do not relish his approach to football.. which means that they rub off on the younger players .

Were in for some more real turbulant times because i cannot see how keeping Lance will be a marriage made in heaven with Denis.

Stupidly he even tried to keep Camporeale at the club when Campo is a bludger and does not know the meaning of "heart and perseverence"
I agree with BV,. Elshaugh had to go.. he is a shithouse coach...and a hard person to relate to.

Warranted that:

So someone who disagrees with you Synbad is a dinosaur. What ajoke - youdon't know anything about coaching a football team, you're just an avid fan who feels close to them.

Yes, you're probably right titimus. Looking back I was even getting confused with who said what eg. dinosaur was used by an earlier poster.

I am just getting so frustrated at Carlton fans who seemed to have switched allegiances now, right when it is apparent what we probably knew 3 years ago. We knew it was going to take a long time to get the club back on its feet - without the penalties , it was still going to take alot of time to replace our entire mid and senior tier. We have no great on ballers anymore, Stevens is our best and he's an outside midfielder who is great in a great midfield.

Anyway, I digress. Severely. I apologise to Synbad and Titimus.

Our failure to land a big player seems to have turned us away from the task that is required from us. We have to be firm, supportive and push back against all other clubs as much as possible, rubbing them up, ribbing them abnd bagging them back.

But now we're turning in on ourselves. Suddenly because they didnt ditch Whitnall Pagan is no good? Whitnall should be a mid 20's star of the AFL , but he isnt because the game has passed him by. He could be a leader though. Forget your dislike of the player for his training, Whitnall turned it around as best he could in 2005 and still turned up to eVFL matches regularly.

We cant let the retention of Whitnall for 2 years on a fair salary turn us against Pagan, or the Club. We're already going to lose 3000 + members for losing Campo and Lappin, imagine how much it would have hurt if we lost Whitnall at the same time.

Its all well & good for us to be crap, but we shouldn't aspire to be completely crap for the sake of it. Whitnall's retention has happened, will remain for at least 1 year - so get over it and look forward to the young players coming through.
