Surely this just reeks of the same old same old approach. Chuck money at it and it'll get fixed (what's the bet Mathewson said he'd cover the wage). If MLG is a new broom, and we are to harbour real hope of change, then this type of old style carlton approach won't cut it. We need process and discretion, not splashing the cash and a crash through or crash approach. I am very disappointed.

Get Bear Gleeson in there to do a review & shake up the recruitment dept.

We need better processes set up & then plug the holes with suitably qualified staff. Process all the way. Embrace the "new" dawn of the draft & forget the cheque book until it matters i.e. securing young, driven talent.
List management, recruiting dept & network to be working in cohesion with a development system to enhance the initiation to the AFL/CFC.
Bring in a consultant or multiples to refine our systems e.g. Jason Dunstall type of recent involvement in footballing matters to impart better practices on our club.

I would've thought MLG would've waited for the new CEO to be involved in re-building the FD... ?

Process ??

No, not really.

This is off field personnel where you can legally approach anyone and pay market value in the hope you entice the best.

On the flip side if we just take what's left we go for Freo failures like Hughes.

We once had recruiters all over the nation and were the envy of all others. Today Collingwood head the list.
We need to spend money on more recruiters and have a man in charge who is likely to make the right decisions.

Having a man head of recruiting making bad decisions will waste a decade of rebuilding and maybe a decade after that rebuilding again.

Get the best off field and if we have talent in house then nuture them too.

Who are we to know what is on the shelf and what is worth nuturing?

There's plenty out there with form and they deserve the high dollar values because they have mastered their craft.
I dont want us to be a middle of the road, lrt alone bottom 4 institution for the next 2 decades. Done one crap decade and I dont want another...or I'm out...cant let my kids go through a Demons, Tigers, Saints, Scrays type of existence.

Don't misunderstand me, I too am after success, sustained success. This approach appears very piecemeal. Its the money that old Carlton think talks, and true and all it does, but not alone. The best in the business want to be successful, and they know that to do that you need the right structures in place on and off the field. Yes, they want to be rewarded for it to, of course. But they will decide whether to come based upon whether they think the club is going anywhere. Currently we are lame duck club, off the field (CEO and President), and sadly on it too. Not much to attract anyone of talent ATM. I want long term planning and decision making, rebuilding the club so that our kids will have both real hope and success. I do not want a hit and hope approach. Whilst it works sometimes, more often than not it doesn't.

Things can turn around pretty quickly on field if we get our off field decisions right and appoint the right people to take us forward.
This can be complemented with more quality players onto our list similar to last year when we brought in Cripps, Thomas, Docherty and Everritt.
We ll have a softish draw due to finishing outside the 8.

The vibe around the Club will be totally different if we can get this right.

Still chasing SOS hard. He'd definitely know which GWS kids to get.

In the article about SOS it says we have short listed 4 candidates - 1 being a high profile figure from outside of football. So perhaps they are involved somehow.

Put it this way: if the board have a fair indication of who they want in that role, and that person happens to be in house, it's likely they are a part of the conversations.

Because on the face of it, approaching people to fill senior footy dept roles without having their leader in place is a pretty arse about way of approaching the situation.

So what are SOS's credentials?
I mean other than playing with Sticks, Ratts and McKay?

Visy losing influence on the Board perhaps - and Mathieson perhaps throwing even more money at Wright to get him on board.

Just saying.

But its not even me saying it.
