can never work out why we continually change our coaching department and but have made little change to our recruiting department.

recruiters and prudent list management have won Hawthorn, Geelong and Collingwood their flags.

Just have a look at Hawthorn and how they use free agency ... they get a Brian Lake and pay him $400K but get $600k value out of him ... we get Dale Thomas and get maybe $500K value but pay $700k.

Joel Selwood would have been the player that could have driven our club to greatness ... probably the biggest miss in our history,

Not sure that's what Mick was saying at all BV, and re: Thomas, can I ask what injury has left him with less kicking power that wouldn't also affect his off-the-mark acceleration?

He doesn't look that far off the pace to me, and deserves 6 weeks of footy before we can see if it's an issue in the short term.

Daisy drove a ball into our forward 50 on Sunday night from the left wing. It was a peach of a kick, low and penetrating. Like his acceleration and fitness, his kicking is coming back.

I might sound like a giant wad of hot smoke here, but before his ankle injury at the pies, Daisy for me was in my top three AFL players.

It's conceivable he will regain that touch and energy with more fitness.

interesting point you raise.....Why couldnt the great Juddy do it on 1 million per season plus Visy perks up to 500k??? (and dont hold your breath on daisy doing anything special in this area either, even though he is probably better at it than Judd and most of the other lame leaders we possess int he team)

In the 2009 GF, when the game was in the balance, at the 3 quarter time huddle, Selwood addressed the players. Can you imagine, how intimidated a young player with barely 50 games on the board, would be addressing players like Abblett, bartel, Johnston, Scarlett, Ling, and even harley the captain etc...in a GF that is up for grabs??? Selwood is natural leader, and courageous and takes plenty of physical hits for the team - sets the standard for the rest of the team - same goes with Hodge and McVeigh.

But what did the cats do when they lost their best player in Abblett and their premiership coach Thompson at the end of the 2010 season? They elected Ling as skipper, knowing Selwood had time on his hands and would take over after Ling. The players also met in the pre season, somewhere in Castelmaine (?) and made a pact to win the 2011 flag. Chris Scott sat back and watched a team riddled with character, leadership and integrity (not to mention ability and talent) win the first 13 games of the 2011 season, lose only 2 games (one to the cheats by a kick, and one in perth against the eagles in th dying minutes). and Chris Scott said it himself in the press conferences after the wins that he hasnt really tampered with the game plan - almost felt embarrassed talking about the wins....

You only have to look at the effect old man chappy is making at Essendon* this year. Not an elite leader at the cats, but at Essendon* he can teach them a thing or two about leadership and mental toughness.

Our problem at the moment is very serious because the cream will not want to come to our club, as they did in the past, no matter how much we throw at them. Mick was picked up because no other team would recruit Mick as coach (perhaps the tigers who are in the same pathetic desperate boat we are in)

Yep to be fair for the most part Daisy has been great the times he's been around the ball.

Unfortunately he has drifted in and out of games and not got near it often enough.
Also his tackling looks quite rusty at the moment compared to his best.

Hopefully by the end of the season we'll be coming home with a wet sail and Daisy, Buckley and Menzel will be running over the top of teams.... give us something to look forward to in 2015.

Mick is the least if our problems ATM.
Biggest problem is the gaping hole in the list.
The terrible culture that has been eating away at the club over a long period of time that it's not even addressed because it's considered normality at our club etc etc.

I remember them too J&TheK . You wouldn't hear a bad word about the players.

I thought he said we were in the pack of teams vying to push towards top 4 status.

That puts us at about 5-12 on the ladder from where I sit. Our form at the moment is more like 9-15, but it's not like there's nothing we can do to turn that around.

Joel Selwood might have been the player we needed... but we were not the club Selwood needed.
The Selwood Geelong marriage was heavensent....make no mistake..
We can be jealous of Selwood... but we are what we are... and Geelong and Selwood have forged a fantastic legacy for their club.

In the meantime .. what are we????

Honesty to your club, supporters , colleagues and above all.. self.

Mick didnt mind trading into the early part and mid part of the draft... depending on what he could get in return....

I'm sick of Mick saying; "we played a very good football side." My question is, when will we become a very good football side? Beating Melbourne, if we do, means nothing. Beating Hawthorn (in my dreams) Geelong, Essendon* means something.

Try 2018 if we do everything right from now....

There is no silver bullet... we cant go sign up Messi or Cristiano from somewhere.

Just have to do it right when we finally decide were going to enter the reality of AFL footy....
