Port were considered the worst list in the league at the time. Off field almost in receivership.
one pre season later they start the year off with 5 consecutive wins. they make the finals, beat Collingwood at home, and had the cats on the ropes a week later. During the year won at least 4 games in spirited come backs.
In the meantime, Mick couldn't even start the pre season for 2 weeks due to a book launch and tour.
Oversaw a business as usual leadership group, that elected Murphy as skipper.
Played boring risk less footy around the wings during the year that didn't suit our list.
Was given a free finals pass due to the mess at the tullamarine poping headquarters.
Relied on a hopeless Tiger second half to win a final and then produced one of the worst performances by a Calrton team the following week. An unheard of team tackle count of 39.
A coach with experience and wisdom would know what to do, the moment they enter a new club. Hit the road running.
What was last year all about?
And nobody knows what this year will bring - they may turn it around quickly and play with spirit and intent....
don't hold your breath with this group of players....I don't trust them
Totally disagree that Port were considered the worst list in the league.
They have been rebuilding almost since their grand final loss.
Stockpiling good kids.
Their only problem was convincing their kids to stay, which they managed.
I think their main difference is that they bottomed out and rebuilt more evenly than we did.
