If all we end up with at the end of this trade period is a guy with suspect ankles and an unknown kid from Brisbane, I will be sorely disappointed. Considering all the talk about how "aggressive" we were going to be this trade period, I was expecting something special. At the very least a gun forward. With Betts now history and stats of 2011 = 50 goals. 2012 = 48 goals and 2013 = 27 goals (broken jaw) a potential 50 goals a season player gone elsewhere is quite a hole to fill.

Docherty a defensive player, when our defense was probably the best thing to come out of 2013, go figure ...

Daisy is a gamble at best with no guarantees. A great pickup IF he's injuries prove to be nothing serious and long term AND he can regain the form he's known for.

And that's it? That's all we've got to show for our "aggressive" 2013 trade period?

I do hope there's a deal going on somewhere for someone we can get excited about.

No currency
No salary cap space

Just a beautifully crafted list and list management
Who did you want for what ?

I said weeks ago. Eddie had to go for space Lol
Ridiculous! Gambled losing our best forward in the hope we can get Garlett to step up so we can get one premium.

The others were always going to be b and c graders.

Psych owes me an apology...
He slagged me off for suggesting exactly that.

It is hard to believe we have little room in our salary cap, poor management.
There is an article on the AFL website about Hawthorn being ready to swoop as it has about one million dollars spare in its cap after Franklin left. It mentions them using it next year to snare a free agent, Gibbs name was brought up.
The premiers have room but we dont, what a joke.

much more thoughtful considered post than food doof accusing my post as me wanting to pay betts.
clearly a dart that misses the board.
sometimes I wonder with people

Food doof? Genius!

I was just asking a question buddy. Sorry you took it the wrong way!

Sorry I'm on a phone over seas.
It's not easy here.

But the point is I shouldn't be questioned about list management the list managers should be questioned why are we at this point two years straight ?

If our salary cap is still this tight again as you say Synners, and I'm not doubting you, it's bloody ridiculous. WHY?

Eddie and Scotto out would free up about $700k you'd think ---> Daisy

Hampson & maybe AJ frees up perhaps $400k ---> Docherty

not much change otherwise to free up more cash unless we trade out a big name

I'd say the main reason is juddjudd
Forget the reports of a huge pay cut.
That's probably his third party pot of gold more than his salary cap situation.

Well lets release Judd then. While we're at it, cut carrots free too. His best is past.

How much cap would we create then?

This is the most negative thread
This is heading towards our best trade period
Thomas is a gun midfielder.
Docherty a pick 12 and by all accounts has the tools to play 200 games. HE CAN RELEASE WALKER
Cross our fingers that is a 50 goal forward for pick 28
Betts is not a 500k player when we have other small forwards
Betts is not our best forward. Leave that to Waite Henderson and walker
Our list management may have been poor but it's pretty good this draft period
Everyone complained we had our hands tied by contracts last year and did nothing and when we are proactive, the whinging continues

I agree. There is a lot of whinging on this thread. Since we can't change thepast how about looking forward. Given where we are I think the trade period can only been deemed as successful with the additions - Thomas and Docherty.

Gibbs contract is up next year. I bet the two Adelaide clubs are already plotting to lure him back via FA. Will we have space to keep him, or let him go for donuts (talk is no comp picks after this year)?

He'll be an RFA so we will always be able to match any offers and if we think he's worth whatever he is offered we can ship players out to keep him. Waite will probably retire (or we can force him to) so there's 500k. Judd might be done so there's more money. Scotto will be done if he doesn't retire now.

Issue is we have Walker, Jamo, Murphy and Simmo as FA too. Although, I can see only Gibbs potentially leaving and maybe Walker if a club offers him overs who think he is the missing piece to a flag.

Hopefully sign everyone up early & avoid the end of the year FA trade radio.

I would expect that to occur.
I would also expect more space to be created at the end of next year, as next years draft apparently runs deep so we would want more picks.

Already on a small fortune, so they'll have to offer him plenty.

I'd have signed everyone I really want a year early.
If they didn't sign a year period to contact lapse is trade

That's how it needs to be.

And yes this thread is negative because our situation isn't positive.

Yes but it's more positive than it was. You can't harp on about the past forever when there is a positive direction and incremental improvement
