Good idea, Doc.
I believe everyone would think he is John's puppet though.
Tom is very different to Jack. I think people would see pretty quickly that they're different kind of operators. Time moves pretty quickly. Tom isn't referred to as
'John's boy' anymore. Carlton needs a charismatic personality, a good spokesman, a bloke that people enjoy listening to and don't cringe whenever the President opens his mouth. We need a person who understands the AFL and how it operates, how footy clubs operate, isn't in a bubble and we're happy for him to represent Carlton at any level. Did anyone else hold their breath when Sticks went to the meeting last week to discuss the Essendon* saga?
We've got a bloke in charge who hasn't left the place since he arrived during the 1985 Christmas holidays. If you don't think he's stuck in a bubble - you're sorely mistaken.
I haven't spoken to Tom in a long time. I knew him quite well in the mid-late 90's. But I know people who know him well, and I'll sound them out. Tom was interested in joining the board at the end of 2006. It wasn't the right time then....but it is the right time now. Kernahan, Fried, Clarke, Geminder and Gleeson must go. And at least 3 out of that 5 know it. LoGiudice should have been cut loose over the Chris Judd 'Sovereign Hotels Pokie' affair.
Stuff the advisory board (for now). Let's get some of these people on who are tired of seeing Carlton spinning wheels. I'm losing patience.
