The board needs to be put under the blowtorch for appointing MM. Ratten was divisive with his approach and not the answer. But, and it's a big but! The board should have let Ratten coach into this season. Whether Walls has an agenda or not, there's a few things he's saying which are valid.
If we'd kept Ratten on, we'd be closer to getting a 1st tier coach like Roos, rather than a 60-year old who's best coaching and list building days are behind him. Based on this season, they look well behind him.
Malthouse's age has absolutely no bearing upon his ability, there's been plenty of crappy AFL coaches of a younger age. Roos won't coach a club that he doesn't believe is ready to achieve highly, he never has had experience in building a list, Eade did the hard work before he took on the Swans job.
Hinkler has done more with a much worse list over at Port
I'm not doubting Hinkley's ability as a coach but i think people underestimate the effect that the tragic events in the pre-season has had on this group of players. I have no doubt it has brought them closer together and brought a different focus to them, basically they have all grown up very quickly.
Malthouse ought to be held accountable over his season and some of the more disturbing ares which have arisen from the season. The loss of confidence in key players under his leadership and guidance. The failure to blood more youth. The thinning of our already thin midfield group to throw them down back.
When Ratten threw Gibbs down back, everyone here were up in arms. Malthouse does it, and we barely discuss it anymore?
Walls was right. There is one rule and matter of logic applied to Ratten, and another entirely on Malthouse.
Walls has not been an objective commentator on anything that has occurred at Carlton this year, he spat the dummy when Malthouse was appointed taking it to the point of refusing to purchase a Carlton membership this season.
Malthouse talked about this list he inherited at his intro presser. He talked about watching them intently over the course of last season. In his surmise he declared them finals bound and capable of giving a push for a flag a real go.
Maybe the reality of seeing things from the inside was different to the picture that was being painted outwardly.
If CFC were serious, MM would be put under review. We have the cattle to make the eight. There was no doubt in my mind we were a better team than Richmond when the season started.
If CFC is serious it will be waiting to see what the results are at the end of his term not taking knee jerk measurees after less than a year into a coaching appointment
I'm not buying our list is so shit we can't make the eight or even the top 6. We have always been inconsistent, we've always taken 2 steps forward and one step back with our bunch of pretty introverts. But when games mattered we turned up and we played with heart.
We have a very poor record against the better teams going back a few years now, going forward that can't be seen to be acceptable. We need to become more consistent and if that means making changes to the list to achieve this then so be it.
This season, I can't think of one game where we've played with intensity for four-quarters ... and this imo is the most disappointing aspect of 2013. I hold MM pretty much solely accountable for this.
This has been the case for a long time before MM arrived, i blame the players.
If MM were the leader we thought he might be when he was appointed, our players as a whole would've not regressed so much and played with so little confidence and heart.
MM has spent this season having a good look at our playing list and i am sure he has decided who of the playing list is capable of taking us forward, i am looking forward to seeing what develops over the pre-season and into next year.
my 2 cents ...
