Your kidding. Complete lack of understanding of the game to call for MM sacking after less than a season. Sounds like Richmond over the past 30 years. Ratten was given 5-6 years MM should be afforded a similar period.

He has taken over a list full of "downhill skiers" and has tried to implement a finals game style and the players have struggled with it.

For whatever reason we have a list full of lazy and overrated footballers. They don't work in numbers or defensively.

Our best players are aging and past their best and our drafting & development has been disgraceful.

At the end of the year major changes will happen and so they should. It took MM a couple of seasons at Collingwood to get the list right and we are in the same position.

Great thinking. By that criteria, he'll be 72 when he coaches us to a flag.
Ring me in 2025.

Or you could say 62 when we make consecutive GF's. :razz:

I know you're only joking BB but lets be serious. I dont recall too many people here reminiscing about our 1986 and 1993 and 99 runner up efforts.
Unlike St Kilda, we're here for flags. Everything else is failure and rightly so.

So Ratten's stellar elimination losses and dare I say it, that "heartbreaking loss in the semi...boohoo, how long will we cling onto that one" are abject failures. I'm sure you've used a contrary argument in the past when comparing the achievements of MM with BR.

Here's hoping the appointment can do as much off field as it can do for the future on field. Changes have been made in recruiting already (more needed), fitness, assistants to be brought in next & players have all been assessed this year for what needs to be a very productive trade/draft period.
The board & executives need a thorough clean out but who & when can this be demanded..
The character of the club needs to have a fighting spirit, something which a lot of the current group lack the fortitude to lead & demand to be hardened 2 way running AFL footballers - and it must be instilled. Looks like a change in personnel is the only way with this group. The guys that have the skill lack the heart & the guys with the heart lack the skill.

As an outside supporter looking in, Im asking all those who know how things work.

If Malthouse, wants to get rid of the likes of, for eg, Gibbs, Walker, Warnock, 2 out of the three amigo's, or any other player for that matter, that we all might think is work keeping, Is there those at the club who can stop Malthouse from cutting anyone he wants?

or is it, what ever Mick says, goes ?

Outback, I reckon' it would be a collective of the football executive/list management (A.McKay, not that I think his performance has been anything but woeful) decision with consultation of the recruitment team on what the pros would be for any draft picks. Think MM would have a higher ranking opinion on coachability of any said player but basis would be formed over the season with their regular meetings.
Player also has to agree if contracted.

I would think (and probably support) that anything he wants he gets.

I think the club got this guy because they were bereft of ideas as to how to make the footy dept better.

I'm far from convinced this guy has the answers, but if the club dithers, tries half measures and second guesses on what MM wants then he has NO HOPE of making a difference.

This post cannot be taken seriously.

Even if we wanted to we couldn't sack Malthouse, be like 2 million.

We need to bolster our football department spending to be a chance of competing with the best to improve our recruiting and development, fairly simple.

Anyone who thinks that Malthouse has failed this year has probably not:

- bought into the expectations created by the club at the end of last year and the beginning of this year;
- realised that if a footy club does not go forward year to year, it goes backwards;
- realised that we were too reliant on "X-factor" players whose difference between their worst and their best was as wide as the Pacific Ocean;
- realised that our poor drafting in midfield in our search for talls over the last couple of years particularly has come to bite us;

I could go on.

Put it this year, we started playing finals in 2009 but how did we improve the list in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012? Reality is we didn't. Our development of the assets we did have was woeful. We expected to naturally improve but took no steps to do so.

Do the supporters who want Malthouse gone really think we were that good against the Geelongs, the Sydneys, the Hawthorns of the AFL? Seriously? Did they watch the way we kept getting monstered by those teams?

I think it's a reality check for our club who has finally employed someone from outside the man cave that is Carlton and its boys' club and is upfront and honest enough to say exactly what we need to hear.

How has Sydney done what they've done without the top draft picks we've had? Paul Roos' answer is culture and team-oriented behaviours. Don't see any of that at Carlton and Malthouse is the first coach we've had in a while to challenge the "Carlton Way".

I thought his comments in the Age this week were spot on. Flame me and Malthouse all you like but the footy world perceives us as flashy, inconsistent and talented but we sure aren't perceived as tough or physical.

Time for some players at our club to realise that supporters are hungry for premierships not highlight reels every couple of weeks and pain the others. The thing that hurts is that we have talent, it's just it hasn't been harnessed or developed properly. That's the problem when we take a myopic, overinflated view of ourselves.

The executive administration are included in this.

We haven't earnt the right to be arrogant but somehow strut around like so. Carlton has been arrogant in the past but we had a right to be. We sure as heck don't right now.

Some good points clear, I don't think many want him sacked, just wish we never got him. Put simply, he doesn't get the best out of the group.... Easy out to say we have a shit list.

We do now, who would want to play this shitty game style apart for rookies whoare getting a chance to play in the seniors and weren't picked for their skill or game breaking ability.
