Looking forward to the much anticipated dual between Carton Full-Forward Sam Rowe and Bulldog Full-Back Mark Austin. Can't believe more hasn't been made of it.

Pretty sure I'll stay home for this one.

Reckon this is a lose/lose situation for Sam Rowe.

If Sam kicks a bag, big deal he kicked a bag on Mark Austin.

If Sam gets toweled up, then, shitto!!!

If Austin plays a blinder it'll look bad for the CFC MC but he was just an average player here. Well, below average so I think it tells us where the Dogs are in terms of their list..
I just hope the boys come out fired up because the Dogs have played some good footy in patches.

Hardly looks bad for mc, Austin was and still is average, one game is irrelevant

Finally we have another half back in the side in Bootsma, so we might actually see a mid back in the middle.
Actually got excited to see Waite, Henderson & Rowe selected. We might actually get 2 fowards and a ruck/forward playing forward together!!!!!
We might even stretch the bulldogs backline.......
Interesting Saturday coming up. I'm excited.

Now that you have the things you want I they work out for us/you.

Watch for running out of legs at the end of quarters and then big time at the end of the game (Extra tall means less run over the 120 mins).

...and watch for goals scored by the dogs after we have made a good spoil. (losing the sure handling and ball reading of classy onballers in the back half)
...... watch for dogs scoring more goals on the old slingshot. (Onballers reading the play better and having more run in the tank to get back quicker and track runs.
.......... and watch for lack of rebound and lack of quality in our repeat inside 50's.

I hope the 3 tall forward line works out but i doubt it will. I know it looked ok last week but we covered that by having Gibbs at CHB. This week we have an extra tall in the 22.
Not until we get more run out of the position Betts and Yaz currently fill will this tactic get close to working IMO.

As for the backline. I prefer onballers back there not flankers. More options, they are better players and provide more mobility across the 22.
Walker , Gibbs and Simpson in the back half suits me.

Hopefully we see something from the coaches and team this week. Lately it has hurt to watch the ol Blue boys.

I agree with us having to work harder at ground level, all over the ground. That is a given in today's football and as a group the 3 amigos did not do that last week or we don't do it often enough.
Problem is we need to be able to complete in the air forward of the centre. We just don't have anyone that can take the game by the scruff and if one of our forwards does look dangerous they cover him with the extra man because we dont have a 2 or 3 option. We need to share the load with Cruz, Waite and Hendo. We are in game then and all three aren't statues.

We will never win enough games to compete with the top sides by having 4 or 5 smalls running around the forward line. Football is not played like that even though some keep telling us it is and should be!

I like this Doggies team. Their midfield is young and tough, with Griffen. Cooney, Cross and Boyd there help push the younger generation.

Its frustrating, we have Murphy, Judd, McLean running through the middle, but there's no one behind them. The Bulldogs have Wallis, Libba, Hrovat, Smith, etc.

Think we have the edge with our KP players this week, if they can combine for a few goals we should be able to outscore them.

If Sedat is out there and listening, just wondering on what you think of young Christian Howard? I remember him being plucked from relative obscurity as a 1st round pick, his highlights show he has a pretty respectable skill set, yet hasn't materialized into the outside run you guys seem to need?

I agree 3 tall forwards would be great if it works but I cant see it working with this line up. Not enough run and rotations with the rest of the team. I can see tall forwards kicking goals for us and some might get excited by that but those goals will come at a cost. Red time goals against and being run over in the last quarter. Swapping 2 of the dedicated small forwards out for 2 proper midfielders who can run all day would give the 3 tall forward setup better chance of working and giving us an advantage over the whole game IMO.

Also prefer onballer types that can also rotate through the middle and give us more flex while still getting the job done defensively in the backline rather than flankers.

In other words id like to see us draft and trade for loads of mids this preseason.

I'm all for 3 tall forwards if it wasn't at Etihad. Two is enough on that ground. At the MCG I'd like to see 3.

Totally agree about more mids. I'd like to know why we keep playing the small forwards. Surely it effects our rotations and flexibility and makes us very predictable.

I doubt the roof will be open, half the game will played in night conditions.
It is a great day though, good to see some sunshine.

Don't agree.

Regardless of whether we actually play 2 or 3 tall forwards this week. I think generally Etihad is where you do go taller, because under the roof it's a marking players venue. That's one of the reasons why Essendon* are much better at Etihad than they are at the MCG. It's also, I think, one of the reasons why we've been much better at Etihad this year. Because we're playing much more towards our tall forwards.

By comparison the extra space at the MCG, Subiaco, Gabba, etc. suits our smaller more mobile forwards.

Victoria’s Regional Rail Link project team has advised that there will be a series of lane closures on sections of Dudley St, on the North West side of Etihad Stadium today.

The closures will prevent access to Dudley St between Spencer St and Wurundjeri Way.

Ok...I've decided to trudge along. Shame to be missing seeing Lachie Hunter (really rate that kid)...but will go and player watch again. I think I'll watch Gibbs and either Libba Jnr or Griffen for the Doggies.

End to end footy so far. Great chase by Graham to prevent a goal in transition. #PJVFL

Good and bad news.

Good that he chases, bad that he is chasing at VFL level

Probably mick having an eye to the future. Not letting players get away with things easy. Knowing the lessons learnt and the pain that goes with it will make the players and team better in years to come. This all comes at the cost of not winning now.
He did this loads with Collingwood.
