There is no way we will secure the no.1 pick.

Forget about it. We would have had to trade one of Kruezer or Gibbs and they are now off the table

Gibbs at least shouldn't be. We are mad if we are complacent in regards to who we think is trade-able.

I don't think GWS will trade pick 1 unless it's over the odds in their favour. Which means I don't think pick 1 will traded, because there won't be a club who will be prepared to pay such overs.

Still think if we're wanting to bolster our KPPs, finding a back and then moving Henderson forward will be easier than finding a forward. I asked this a few pages back...anyone know of Rutten's form and fitness? He's a free agent (unrestricted?), and to get someone like him for a couple of years while we develop Watson, McInnes and White (who I think are the three to keep working with, certainly McInnes and White) and can then move Henderson forward seems like a reasonable way to go.

I agree with others though that our midfield depth is terrible, and desperately needs to be addressed. Judd, Scotland, Carazzo and Simpson will all be gone within the next 2-3 years, and there's not much coming through to replace them.

Watched a few Crows games this year.

Rutten isn't entirely past it yet.

Still a smart fullback who doesn't lose too many one on ones. Disposal is what you expect from an old-school fullback. Probably on par with Jamo in that regard.

The real concern is he has lost a yard of pace. He's smart enough to have tweaked his game a bit to cover it slightly, but still gets caught on the lead quite a bit.

Proved a durable player, but you'd get one year out of him and that's it.

i agree, no chance for tom boyd.
one of our problems is that we have a lot of similar type players;
curnow, cachia, bell, mclean, robinson and carrazzo not quick and average skills.
we have a few holes to plug, in no order,
1. key forward
2. key defender
3. mids
players that are in trouble, imo,
collins, o'keeffe, mitchell, davies, duigan, dale, joseph and ellard.
McCarthy i reckon will get another year.
laidler will get one more also, with duigan going maybe an insurance for our back line.
will scotland retire???
would GWS give up jaksch??? if so what price?? maybe yarran and robinson??? or yarran and warnock???
i would look at kieran harper from north.
i would look at david atsbury from tigers.
i would look at trading warnock and hampson with the view at chasing nathan vardy...
we have to be realistic at chasing players, don't want to sell the farm for a town house.
graham will add to our midfield next year, will buckley make it??? hope so....
would dale thomas fit into our midfield??? prob yes, but at what price, $650??? costs us no picks...
would be rapt if we could pick up.
nathan vardy, david astbury, kieran haper, dale thomas and kristian jaksch....
at the cost of,
yarran, robinson, warnock, hampson, second and third rounder..
still gives us our first pick to get the best available..
our team could look something like,
mcInnes jamison tuohy
walker astbury harper
thomas graham gibbs
garlett henderson menzel
betts vardy jaksch
kreuzer judd murphy
anyone from,
simpson, lucas, watson, bootsma
armfield, bell, curnow, cachia
casboult, rowe, carrazzo and our first pick.
buckley, temay, mccarthy and our all other picks will need some time.
white, laidler, mclean can all be back up depth players, waite will be a bonus if he plays at all..
harper is 21, vardy is 22, astbury is 22, menzel is 19, graham is 19, jaksch is 19, thomas is 26 and our first pick will be 18.
great age there, inject some talent whilst keeping the list at the right age, mix of youth and experience.
just some of my thoughts..

Thanks for sharing, pretty obvious you put a bit of effort in here. Agree or not, that makes a great post in my book.

Yes, Ziggy, who does replace those 4?

Reflecting on it y'day, I came up with:

Graham
Tuohy (make him a mid next few years and get Bootsma in his place next year)
Bell
Thomas (free agent hopefully)
Buckley
Menzel (can go through there, needs to get his tank up off course)
Traded mid 2014 off season (move on Robbo, Warnock/Hammer, possibly Yarran)
Mid 1st or 2nd round of 2014 draft

There's hope.

If Yarran isn't going to build his fitness to a level to play midfield then move him on.

We can't play with so many small forwards who don't rotate through the middle, or if we have midfield injuries can't play that role for a large percentage of time of field.

Agree with your yarran analysis king Kenny

The thing is the guy only needs 15 possies a game to make an impact. If Judd can sit 30% game time on the bench, couldn't we do same with yarran?

Mitch Brown has had to many injuries. Not worth the risk. Makes a lot of mistakes. Be a fair few players I would be moving on before Yarran. Give him some more time under Mick and see what happens. His workrate is improving and he hasn't lost any talent.

Looks like Betts is in the Crows sights this year, as is Gibbs for 2014 when he's a restricted free agent.

Crows don't need to trade to get Betts (free agent).

I'd reckon Yarran, Pick 9 (maybe a swap of 2nd round picks) and two mature players like Laidler & Hampson might be chance to get Pick One (Boyd) and maybe Jaksch. It's a lot but to do it we will have to pay overs.

If we could then get Boyd and Jaksch that would be awesome.

I would then look at our third rounder for Jessie White. 26 years old, natural key forward and back up ruck and starting to play to his potential. Out of contract as well. Add to our options.

Gives us Henderson, Jamison, Waite, White, Rowe, Boyd, Casboult, Jaksch, Watson, McCarthy as our key position options!

We may then be able to add to our midfield depth with free agency (maybe Thomas) and by trading guys like Warnock & Robinson for draft picks.

Hopefully we can also trade for a good young player a bit like we did for Laidler.

Add these to Menzel, Graham, Buckley, Temay, Bell, OKeefe, Cachia & Bootsma who will hopefully take the next step in 2014 we look okay.

Gibbsy, Hendo and Bell were at my gym on Saturday for a promo. Got to say hi and great win to them. Was at the game Friday right behind the North bench/warmup/massage area on the fence. Asked Bell when he expects to be back for Northern and he said maybe within two weeks? His jaw was going pretty well he said. Told Henderson he was magnificent (I'm sure he already knows) and Gibbs that he needed to do better for my Supercoach... lost by 15 points. That's on you Bryce!

Not sure if they were headed to watch some of the Northern action.

Anyway I hope all three are guarantees on next year's list.

It's nice when you run into some of them and they give you the time of day. They must get sick of it but they do it well.
