Now for the resting ruckman but I digress...!

2 KP forwards + ruckman only rarely. To have it more often would be going back to the thinking of old fogeys like Pagan. Especially at Etihad...need mobility.

..nope, you need two bonafide KPFs, cos one is often leading up.. ..the resting ruck can play deep.. ..if you only play 1 KPF, then resting ruck isnt a 3rd tall but needs to provide structure and it becomes too big a workload being the 2nd kpf target..

..Hendo needs to be the main KPF.. ..he has very good running patterns, works hard, runs straight at the ball carrier.. ..is good marking on the lead as well as in a body on body contested situation.. ..is a good shot for goal, but also not a greedy/selfish fwd.. ..is not only a young KPF, but also a leader and could become the general of the fwd-line... .you can rely on him..

Reading comprehension?

Not surprised by Hendo performing so well up forward.....Remember he came to us as a forward originally from the Lions, we were forced to play him down back through injuries.....I'd like to also see what Luke Mitchell can do....and don't give up on Casboult.

He'd also played his game against Lance Franklin at CHB for the Lions. + he choked up forward when he 1st arrived at CFC and struggled to take a mark and kick goals up fwd. You may heard some less than encouraging support for Hendo in the past (unfortunately).

It was the same bunch who rubbished JK as well.

..Effes, not at all, i'm talking about team selection and balance, don't worry about how they line up on the team sheet it's not played on a foozeball table.. ..you need 2 KPFs, and then you need 1 primary ruck and a decent backup that's your fwd/ruck.. ..3 'talls' up fwd, but you need them to be mobile and especially hard working.. ..and they need to co-operate.. ..just as important, is a smart kicking onball brigade and a couple of creative HFs..

Look. In my view it was a good win. No it wasn't pretty but the players stood up against a team that we have had trouble beating for the best part of a decade.

I liked having Rowe & Hendo up forward. Rowe is better than Casboult because he uses his body well and can actually put the ball through the sticks.

I especially liked the fact that our guys didn't shy away when the St Kilda players tried to turn it into a bitch-slapping contest. Most of the boys flew the flag in the argy bargy and to me that is a sign that Malthouse is trying to bring them out of their shells. Even Gibbs took a player out in the contest which was great to see.

Best game from Simmo in a long time, and Juddy was also fantastic.

And Jeffy gave someone a bake.

Highlight of the night was him throwing the Saints stooge like a bag of laundry, winning the kick and letting him know .

Missed the goal, but that was almost incidental.

IIRC they were filthy on Geary after he stood on Murphy's feet during the previous encounter.

Hi Effes,
I haven't watched the second half yet. I will comment once I have.
Looks like he had a good game with those stats.

Good onya club

Interesting comments from MM

"He's equally as comfortable in the backline as he is in the forward line. We'll have to grow our backs and see whether we can use him on the forward line more often. If that's not the case he'll go back there."

Could only watch the first quarter and a half live. Just finished watching the rest.

Happily take the win, especially against the Saints, however it wasn't overly inspiring. The first quarter was ordinary.

Pleased we ground out the win against opposition we struggle against. Need to do the same next week.

Judd, Simmo, Hendo very good.

To me though our pressure and work rate fluctuate too much. Even during games. We still get opened up and scored against too easily.

I know MM is trying to instil a defensive orientated game plan however IMHO the balance is not quite right. We are playing without freedom, without flair, without instinct in my opinion. Though hopefully that may come if our confidence can return.

Sounds like defense first. Stop score against then worry about score for. I was all for Henderson forward this week. Just wanted Casboult out of there.

Not sure the Saints are a great measuring stick. No forward line to show us how much Henda is missed and no backline to show us how good Henda is as a forward. Still ill take his performance today as a plus. I haven't been as bullish about henda as defender as I have about he amount of wins we have with Gibbs behind the ball compared to onball. Henderson is all class.

Hope we chin North and Henda has a blinder.

terrible game
McInnes
Hendo should be captain
Rowes first half
best things to come out of it
rest not great
soo many front runners
Gibbs Yarran Gartlett Murphy not good enough
should pick Simmos and Judds brain on strong heart strings
Kreuzer doesn't get enough of the footy follows the ball too much needs to use his tank to find space

stKilda are pretty ordinary
This game almost doesn't count

Sticks your a flower
