Been saying for weeks we are not good enough to match it with a top 6 side. I don't expect us to make finals as we have too many players lacking the required mental toughness, effective decision making and skills. Time for a clean out.

they build you up then chuck it in

Wow!

A four goal missed shepherd!

i actually think it was Walker's miss in the last. that was our momentum killer. (player's kicking the ball the ball at goal-along the ground. don't get me started on that!!)

Agree it was a critical point in the game, although there were a few other classic stuff ups (Lucas kick which didnt even make the play, the Yazza pass, the Waite shot at goal around the corner when he should've handballed to either of the 2 options running into open goal.....lots of them.

That Walker shot would have put us within 2 points...and we're on a roll...then after that they just kept the ball up their end and the rest is history.

Passengers Betts and Garlett...fir dinkum how much spectating did Bettsy do? Hopeless.

Same old story, the opposition didn't win, we lost the game.

Jeez, Rob Walls' weekly (and less than subtle) whack at MM is getting a bit tiring.

Get over it Wallsy, Ratt's has gone FMD.

That was the most miserable night at the footy ever. A few showers ended up being 30mm of rain.

Lost to a weakened swans team with 5 first year players. Longmire had the audacity to bring in a first gamer against us! Obviously doesn't rate us, NO FEAR against the blues. Bugger it we are not much chop. A mediocre team who will struggle to win enough games to sneak into the top 8.

So it's time to bring in the aggressive types and go down swinging. AJ, Davies, Duigan etc come on down and just maybe let the opposition hesitate a little.

Clubs seriously consider us a soft team....it shows!

Longmire has the courage to bring in a first gamer and plays first year players as the Sydney development & recruiting system is one of the best in the AFL. The trust in the players to play their role is well understood and executed, no matter who you are!!! This is well ingrained in the Sydney Swans culture. Point in case - Mitch Morton (who didn't play last night) was a washed up hack from Richmond and WCE and now a premiership player and plays his role as the medium forward. He has learnt the Sydney system the hard way and has reaped the benefits, as have the team. Brandon Jack is another who played last night - where did they pluck him from? He looks like he'll be better than his brother!!! What number was he picked at? Pretty low draft pick I bet.

What the Sydney recruiters see and what our recruiters see are poles apart as the results show. Have no doubt the Sydney Development Academy run by Roos is much better than what we have. They were saying on the telecast last night that they have a couple of Americans going through that academy being taught the skills and game (much like Mike Pike). Scary if they turn out half as good as him!!

Question must be - what are we doing to get some of that IP into our club from the likes of Sydney, Geelong, Hawks? Instead of sticking to just Collingwood people?

Great side. '9 Premiership players missing', but most importantly the hardcore of the midfield remained which was where the game was won.

Even so they lose nothing when replacing Mumford with Pyke. Everitt covered Morton. Tippett is better than Reid, Rampe replaces Johnson, they bring in Mitchell this year nd Parker steps up from 2012 to allow McVeigh to go back to HB to fill in for Shaw etc etc

We miss Murphy and Carrazzo and replace them with Curnow and Cachia.

didn't they beat Sydney in the wet with Ratts?

Didn't they lose to the Southport thirds under Ratts?
Didn't they lose to PA last year under Ratts?
Didn't Dalhaus have a feast under Ratts?
Didn't Lindsay Thomas kick Avogadro's number on us under Ratts?

What's your point?

well, I was grumpy last nite,
but..I believe I meant...it's not ground breaking that MM showed our boys how to kick in the wet.
I can see some improvement..not being stubborn about this.
also can see some player who seem to be shining less, or not allowed/feel a bit quashed? under MM.
I know it's teething pains. (God I hope it is.)
Anyway..
credit to..
hendo..what a star.
simmo..gallant and brave in the wet. (will pay TM infringement fine)
gibbs..was as tough as you'd ever wish him to be.

are we just a few hacks dropped away from great success?
will it take til after next draft?
can we make the 8, and keep improving?
right now, I just want us to win again.
starting next fri. nite.
come back Carrots!!!!!
don't care how slow some say he is..
I'd prefer Laidler for White any day
and...
ditto Bell, for whoever they have to take out.

I'm grumpy too BG so don't take offence at my curt response.
Bottom line is that our predicament in 2013 is like a minestrone. It's ingredients are made up of a bit of everyone's views

Ellliott sacking Brittain prematurely
Elliott being Elliot
Pagan...enough said
Not identifying anyone except Ratten in 2006 (Lyon comes to mind)
Etihad deal
over reliance on Fev and Judd
Pathetic recruiting
Shocking development
Bogan president
philanthropic culture of financial gain
Giving Ratts a second contract
Going for another quick fix with MM
ETC ETC

Bell, McInnes, Murphy, Carrazzo and Graham need to be in that side in the next few weeks.

Yep but not sold on Bell he is a poor user and makes dumb decisions

Reckon last night was tailor made for him. Horses for courses.

I thought he might of been a late inclusion. Bell is not there yet but has a lot of upside and is raw in football terms. IMO will be a good player.

The issue for me is we have too many average players. Can't beat quality.

Curnow isn't up to it and Armfield, Cachia & Robinson need to play more offensive roles. We need to win more of the ball.

We can talk about positions, body size etc but you can have all that but it needs to be quality. Sydney have it everywhere. They are the benchmark.

Guys like Menzel, Graham, McInnes, Bell, Murphy, Carrazzo and possibly OKeefe (who would be invaluable) will add to our list quality but we need much more.

Need another QUALITY tall forward and tall defender plus a couple of tough classy mids. Not easy to get but its what we need.

Personally I would have Garlett, Yarran, Hampson, Warnock, Kruezer, Laidler, Watson all on the possible trade table at the end of the year, hopefully we may get a few bites. See what we can get.

There is a core there and I like the way we are trying to play but until we get some quality depth we wont compete with the top sides when it matters.
