To everyone who seems to think Waite should have been left out by the leadership group this week I ask you,
Has any team, coach, leadership group EVER imposed an extra week(s) ban for a suspended player in addition to that handed down by the tribunal?
And it doesn't count if it's a fringe player.
This is by far our best key forward in a team that is absolutely screaming for a key forward.
A guy that many believe to be the most important to our team, if not at least in the top 5.
Patrick Ryder is better than Gumbleton yet was kept out for another week.
HAHAHA what a joke.
Gumbleton had kick 9 goals and 22 marks from his 3 games prior to Ryder not getting selected. He was in great form and didn't deserve to be dropped.
You seen anyone in the key forward ranks racking up those kind of stats for us lately?
A statement needed to be made but the club squibbed it. Gumbleton apparently 'rested' this week...
After a loss and Gumbletons worst game for the season. He was dropped. If he'd taken 10 marks and kicked 4 goals he wouldn't have been.
They didn't need to bring Ryder back because they have key forward options coming out their ears.
We... Do not.
Neither Hampson nor Kreuzer have the slightest clue how to play key forward. Basic positioning, leading, bodying, protecting space, they just have no idea. It makes me wonder about the coaching.. Are they being taught the right way and just can't execute?
Point is, if we don't play Waite, and once again bomb it long to 'key forwards' who have absolutely no idea how to play the position or take a mark, and once again waste all the possession we get, and once again lose by a small margin and slip to 3-5, we look pretty bloody stupid.
Waite's headbutt was barely that. I believe he would have got off on appeal on grounds of insufficient force to warrant a report. Yes it was silly to put himself in that position but he's done his time. At least he plays with a bit of heart and mongrel. I'd rather that than the 12+ players who were just limp on monday night.
