I will find it interesting to see who is "in our best 22" when it comes to the ruck position.

Whoever is picked as the ruckman for Carlton - I hope he can kick some goals as well.

Warnock - 5 games - 0 goals

Kreuzer - 20 games - 10 goals

Hampson - 13 games - 15 goals
Hampson did spend much more time in the forward line than in ruck comparative to Kreuzer, so technically the best in this regard looks like Kreuzer.

Whoever is their primary ruckman should be aiming for 15-20 goals per season.
Madden in 1987 kicked 20 goals. Kreuzer could get 15-20 goals if fit.

Kreuzer 88 games 48 Goals including

2008 13 goals 1 behind (kicked 12 straight before his first behind. Not a bad effort from a fit young fellow in his first season - 20games)
2009 13 goals 11 behinds (23 games)
2010 5 goals 4 behinds (13 games)
2011 7 goals 7 behinds ( 12 games)
2012 10 goals 8 behinds ( 20 games)

So based on the above I concur that if fit, and he really hasn't been fully fit the last 3 or so seasons, he should be able to contribute 20+ goals per season, perhaps even more with the right amount of support. Matty himself has admitted in the last few weeks that he hasn't been able to properly practice his goal kicking in recent seasons due to the need to manage his workload at training due to his (and the other ruckmens's ) bad run with injury and form. A fully match fit Kreuzer with a solid pre-season behind him and some confidence back in his game could be a major surprise to many football watchers this year and be a significant contributor to our goal kicking tally.

Pretty hard to fault. Not sure we'll play the extra ruck on the bench (with Casboult in the side).

I also think that White might get a game ahead of Duigan.

I am finding it harder and harder to come up with a solid 'best 22' now. In a good way.

I reckon there are only about 14 players who you lock in no matter the opposition, but as for the other 8, I think the names are all dependent on who we are playing (talls/smalls, speed/size etc), who is in form and who is injury-free.

Good problem to have.

comparing that to what i posted

u have scotland instead of armfield. so would i but i didnt have him thinking we were picking for round 1

o'keeffe instead of duigan. seems fairy nuff and ditto warnock for hampson

but you have watson in the 22 and no casboult. i dont concur and we may have to go to arbitration for this.

cheers

This is how I'm looking at it heading towards Round One:

B: ?????? Jamison/White Laidler
HB: ????? Watson O'Keefe/Bootsma
C: ?????? ??????? ???????
HF: ?????? Henderson Waite
F: Betts Casboult/Kruezer Walker
Foll: Warnock ??????? ??????
Int: ????? ????? ????? ?????

MM will look for as much run, speed, ball use and rotations as possible. The flexibilty of Waite, Walker & Henderson adds to key position options and have 4 runners on the bench.

The 12 question mark spots get filled from runnning players and mids Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, McLean, Scotland, Yarran, Touhy, Curnow, Ellard, Craham, Lucas, Robinson, Garlett, Simpson, Menzel, Collins, Bell & Duigan.

B. Laidler Jamison O'Keefe
HB. Tuohy Henderson Yarran
C. Simpson McLean Gibbs
Foll. Kruezer Judd Murphy
HF. Carrots Waite Garlett
F. Hampson Walker Betts
Int: Garlett Casboult Robinson Ellard

Walker to run through the middle to rest others while Casboult sits in the square.
Carrots to play the defensive forward and swap with McLean through the centre (mainly to pick up Deleido and Cotchin).
Laidler third man up

It's TUOHY, guys.

White and Bell are also shining at the moment, but not necessarily certain starters just yet.

There may well be a couple of surprises come round 1, just yet.

Yeah yeah. I suppose it's Gartett and Laidlaw too.

Looks like Hendo won't be in anyone's best 22 come round 1......ie he still is being rested..( once again not playing in the intra club)..sounds like real problems with the hip

I'm surprised how many people are leaving Armfield out, was one of the very few who improved last year and cemented his spot in the 22. New year, new coach etc but I'd be surprised if he doesn't play round 1.

I know you bump into him every now and then on the golf course LB. Did you get the inside scoop from him?

Carrots told someone in the CFC cafe prior to yesterdays game that all the players rested are right to go next week in Sydney.
Henderson was named as a rested player not injured. Only Judd, Waite and McInnes are named as injured...plus maybe one other.
Waite and Judd are expected to be available for round 1.

Hendo trained recently without a hint of soreness so hopefully there's a plan to have him ready to rumble against the Tigers in round 1. I see where you're coming from.

If Watson Jammo and Laidler are the 3 defensive talls then I can see Hendo and Waite up forward with a 2nd ruckman (Kreuzer, Hampson, Casboult) as the 3rd tall.

I just hope everyone selected in round 1 is 100% fit.

I spoke with Henderson before the first practice match. Said he was fit and had no issues. Will play at least 2 NAB Cup games before Round One.

Guys like Henderson, Murphy, Simpson, Kruezer all have seperate programs with the pure goal of being right for Round One.

Even Judd, Waite & Menzel aren't that bad but the club are being cautious. It's only February. MM wants a healthy list come March/April.

Not sure. Love his dash and attack but watching the practice games it is becoming obvious how far his disposal is behind others. As our side improves he is the type could be easily pushed out unless he keeps improving. Look at someone like Nick Graham, looks ahead of Armfield already because of his ability to get to the right places and use the ball properly. Is he ahead of Lucas, Simpson, Yarran, Menzel, Gibbs, Tuohy, Scotland, Graham, Bootsma, Robinson, Carazzo & Garlett? As that's probably who he's up against.

Not saying he cant make it or shouldn't but to get into our best 22 in 2013 guys like Armfield will have to keep on improving and by a fair way and that can only be a good thing.

..in regards to your question, yes to maybe half those players.. ..new recruits look good in praccy matches, cn they go a full season?, will they prove they can make that potential a reality.. ..they look good, but afl is the next step so they are as of yet unproven.. ..he's a very good BP, can be a run-with player, is a dangerous tagging HF, and plays close to coaching orders.. ..plays with heart, aggressive and fair, and has steadily improved every season so we've yet to see his 'ceiling'..
