Except that "non-finals team" is hugely misleading - do you really think that, with a reasonable run with injuries, we'd still have missed the finals? I put it to you that it's highly likely that we'd have challenged for the top four.

In 2011, the same list took us to within a kick of a preliminary final. We were pretty bullish about the same players 12 months ago. The only reason to suspect that things would fall away in 2012 was injuries - exactly what happened. The injury crisis of 2012 has clearly negatively distorted supporters' views about the state of our list which, while it could be better, is not in that bad a shape.

Yep Goodes missed 6. We've already discussed Sydney's injuries in this thread.

As for Hawthorn, no doubt Hodge and Buddy missed quite a bit of footy.
But that was pretty much it.
As for their starting back 6, out of a possible 150 games, they missed a total of 10, never having more than 1 of their backmen missing any 1 game.
Come grand final day, the only players missing from their best 22 were Guerra and Whitecross.

If Judd and Waite miss the same number of games as Hodge and Franklin during the season, where would we finish?

Hawthorn finished on top

Think we are a bit light on assistant coaching talent. Wiley by the sounds has been a good get but the set up as it stands now leaves a lot for MM to do.

If they're the only two who miss serious time, and collectively our back 6 miss no more than 10 games, and never more than one of those 6 at a time, we'll finish top 2 easy.

Franklin missed 6 games, Hodge missed 14 games during the home and away season... this was around the time Gunston established himself, who is the Waite replacement? Mitchell? How about Judd?

The you make disclaimers on disclaimers for our back 6...

BigRed got it right!

Top 2 easy explains a lot

Waite missed 11 games this year, Judd missed 5 (4 of which we won).

The back 6 disclaimers relate exactly to Hawthorn's back 6 this year. Having a solid back 6 is crucial to having a successful year.
The injuries that really hurt us this year were Laidler, Henderson, Jamo, Waite, Walker, Carrazzo, Murphy, Hampson, Warnock, as well as having Mitchell, Casboult and Rowe unable to come in to cover for Waite.

This has been rumbling for a bit, and could be a massive coup or a massive flop. Great player, of that there can be no doubt, and I'm sure the work he's done in indigenous communities has been terrific (and would certainly be someone the likes of Yazz and Jeffy would look up to), but how are his coaching credentials? Any SANFL-watchers have any idea on this front?

I guess it depends on the type of role he'd be taking on (if it's development then there can be no doubt of his quality) to see if this works for us. But either way, you can't have too many quality people at the club

Also on Bassett, it's about time someone turned the @#$%&! Hawks down :donk:

All that being said, not sure how seriously we should take an article with this
Quote:
The Blues will have a new assistant coaching panel after Paul Williams, Mark Riley and Alan Richardson all parted company with the club following the sacking of Brett Ratten.

Erm....

1) Assistant coach at the SANFL premiers

2) would be the midfield coach

Yeah but outside of being an assistant coach for an SANFL premiership side, a couple of Norm Smiths, a couple of premierships, three best and fairests, a Leigh Matthews Trophy, five time All Australian, runner up in the Brownlow, a Michael Tuck Medal and a Jim Stynes Medal has he really achieved all that much?

Except for the bolded part, none of that means he'll make a great coach (case in point: Robert Harvey or Tim Watson). I just hope the club is focusing more on his SANFL-coaching exploits than his playing career.

I'm sure he brings a lot to the table as a coach, I'm just curious about people's thoughts on his efforts on that front.

I like that Mick has sounded out McLeod, sounds like he wants to ignite the indigenous boys....

Yep, great use of stats....we beat GWS (Judd rested), WB, Richmond & Lions

What if Judd missed 14 like Hodge?

Waite is hurt every year, and the replacements you mention had 0 senior games between them at the start of the season. So we didn't know/still don't know if they can play; factor in that Mitchell has been injured every year since the age of 16 then our tall forward issues weren't a great surprise and are an annual occurrence :banghead:
