''Clubs talk; but the Bloods walk''

A good article by Jake Niall on what it takes to be top of the heap.

What we learn from Swans: NEVER give up.
What we learn from Hawks: You kick points, you can't win big games of footy.

Did i hear Roos and co on the couch last night say that their culture is due in part to hard work of Leading Teams?

..yup, but that program isn't for everyone.. ..plenty have used it to their advantage, swans and cats as examples.. ..others not so well, e.g bulldogs.. ..we've fallen somewhere in the middle..

Many of us are admiring the way the Swans (and Hawks to an extent) play their football, and their never-say-die attitudes to playing. I think we can acknowledge what we saw today was at another level altogether to what our team produces. So what can they learn from this, strategy-wise, personnel-wise, commitment-wise?

Given we're a club who clearly puts a lot of stock in what previous teams have done the year before, surely everyone from the club can learn some things from today...

How many of our players would have put their body on the line like Hannebery did in that first quarter when he took that mark (one of the marks of the year).
I don't think would be too many!

Handy having an extra million in the salary cap.
That cost of living allowance will give them a good chance to get Tippett.

They live in a city where no one knows who they are - They walk down the street and no one stares at them , they don't treat them like rock stars - So basically they haven't got their heads so far up their own arses like the players in Victoria.

It is easy to create a good environment and good culture when the players are not up themselves and maybe in that sort of place a program like leading teams might work and be successful. But if a player gets reprimanded by his team mates in melbourne he only has to walk out the gates of the club and he will have any one of a thousand people telling him how wonderful he is .

Sydney's culture is brought about by where they live. and if you want another example of this have a look at the Melbourne Storm

Very true. A lot of similarities between the two and what they continue to achieve.

So, how did Collingwood win the 2010 flag, and Geelong the 07, 09, 11 flags, and Hawthorn the 08 flag, and WCE the 06 flag? I don't hold with yer detective work there. It sounded ok, but there's a lot more to it than that.

Just an anecdote. I have a mate who plays for a team that's won a flag in the last few years. Wherever he goes, he's recognised. Last year a bunch of us went to a pub in Port Melbourne for a pre-Christmas lunch. As we walked through, every single head turned - it was eerie; everyone pointed and whispered. And he isn't even such a high profile player. Yes they live in a bubble. Yet the following year, they won the flag.

I thought this article was really relevant to where we should be setting ourselves up as a power.

It's called great management and discipline.

We also learnt that a Morton can make a difference.

Lets get Cale now he wants out, 8th pick in the rookie draft should seal the deal

Geelong and pies have a lot more talent on their lists
Sydney turns spuds and duds into good footballers if sydney were playing out of lake oval they would struggle to make the eight
