If it didnt compromise our TPP plans I'd do it. Especially if we got MM to coach him.

That's good in theory but if we offer Cloke anything close to what the Pies are offering, they can choose to match.

Reportedly, Pies have offered $750-$800k, I think Pies would offer 5th year if another contending club offered Cloke same money as them but 1 year longer.

I have some reservations but I would strongly consider this. If we had to trade for Cloke by giving up the equivalent of two first round draft picks or the like, then yes, $1 million per year would be absurd. However given that in a trading sense we get him for absolutely nothing, that changes things dramatically in my view. All of a sudden it's a much better deal. I will leave it up to the club to see whether he can be realistically fit into the cap, and I have my doubts, but if he can then yes I would like to have him.

Even if we dont want him, which i dont. It would be worth offering that to force Collingwoods hand for the 5th year at worst.
I doubt they would call our bluff and even if they did I could live with taking him for that. Pretty sure a 3rd club would outbid us anyway.

I agree. The way the question is asked really determines the kinds of answers you receive.

Do we want to significantly improve our list (without having to give anything away)? Do we want a gun key position monster forward, so we can compete in September and the big games? Do we want to overpay young talent, who've yet to really deliver (like Gibbs, Kreuzer, etc.)?

Yes, David Cloke is an ex-Richmond and Collingwood bogan. But really not sure what that's got to do with anything after this next contract is signed. And no doubt we've got bogan parents already at the club.

If it's going to cause salary cap problems or ructions in the playing group, then no. Otherwise, I can only imagine they'd love to have one of the 3 best key position forwards coming into the team.

Do we want to gamble our future on an inconsistent player with an over-inflated ego who cannot stand up to his idiot parents?

What really concerns me is that 23% apparently want Cloke at the club for a mill a year for five years! When did that become good value and worth considering??

Pies offered Cloke $750k a year for 4 years, which is overs. That's much more than what Murphy would be on. And he said "No."

We don't need somebody like that at our club.

NO NEED TO

No need to pay such a ridiculous sum to a bloke who peaked mfor a coupla years.
Rather buy 2 x 10 year players.

They must be Collingwood supporters.

NO. Will stuff up payments to the rest of the list over the next few years and will be a de-stabilizing force, not unlike Fevola but for different reasons.

Plenty of room in cap, McLean was on big money not next year, salary cap will increase again next year freeing up more money. Judd's contract was front ended will be on less now. Waite on veteran list next year.

All AFL players are over paid get over it and stop acting high and mighty good luck for them while they can get it.

The only pro I can see to Cloke is that free agency would mean we'd avoid having to give up any of our players or draft picks to sign him.

Problem with that is that we need a clean out and our draft picks aren't that great.

Why can't you do both? A clean out would free up cash for Cloke. If the clean out includes trading decent players for picks you can improve your draft picks too.

As you limit your ability to keep these draft picks when they get to Callan Ward/Tom Scully age, as you've agreed to pay Cloke a million a year for the next five years...

I think you're making a different argument.
Given that there is salary cap, not all AFL players are overpaid. Judd for example.
