Lots of speculation and opinions on here. Questions quite rightly need to be asked. I believe the club needs a major shake up.

I have been concerned for a long while of the lack of communication between the different departments at the club.

In my opinion we need to get people on the same page and to do that a new coach needs to have a full say over the football department. One person in charge.

This is a cultural issue and this doesn't change by moving one person.

Swann needs to appoint MM. They have a good relationship and they have been through this before.

Head of Football: Currently McKay I like him but he is a Ratten appointment. I have a question mark.

Asst Coaches: Malthouse will bring in own people.

Recruiting: I would leave as is unless MM can get Hine.

Fitness: Time for change.

Northern Blues: Need a coach that will coach the same as seniors. Game plan, style etc. Players need to be prepared to step up when ready.

Need to trade a Ruckman and either get rid of or trade Thornton, Russell, Bower.

Need to get in a gun mid and back up KPP. Not Cloke.

3-4 kids through draft.

As for board needs a full change.

Anthony Pratt to be Prez supported by board of 6 people. Set business plan and goals and run as business.

Communications although improving is an issue.

This is not a time for mates, being nice etc. It is time for a ruthless and business minded attitude. It is about winners!!!

I seriously believe we have the talent. Look at how many players on that list have a lot of improvement in them.

Mediocrity needs to be kicked out the door and NEVER EVER tolerated.

Not entirely sure Malthouse will be the best man available, but I guess time will provide that answer, as I don't have enough faith in the board to conduct a thorough process to review the coaching positions.

I agree camel...

Last night on ch.7 Malthouse mentioned that he didn't like all aspects of coaching, which made me think he's more suited to a director of coaching role... or maybe he was just foxing???

I'd like to see....

Sticks, Jeanne, Gleeson, Harrison, Moulton and Suss depart the board.

The new board arrange for an independent review of front office admin and Footy ops management then act on any recommendations.

Any new FD appointments (coaches, etc.) can then follow.

Agree with this. I'm concerned that the board cannot be trusted to be objective enough about any club wide review or enact the changes an independent review might suggest.

This in turn might mean we don't attract or obtain the right mix (coaches) if as expected Ratts is gone. We need to fix our administration in order for the onfield performance to improve.

I have no facts or inside word, just my instincts and observation of what the best clubs are like on and off field (Hawks, Swans, Pies, Cats, Eagles).

Sadly this. It deflates me more than last night's loss, tbh ...

Malthouse may not be best available or best but he at least will have a self given mandate to do it his way.

A first timer wouldn't have that at our club.

I'm all for an open process but I just don't trust our current board to carry that out properly.

Malthouse it is.

I agree with some others who believe we have issues right through the Club.

For me, it starts at Board level. Without rehashing the arguments, Kernahan needs to go. I don't know enough about the others on the Board to know who should become President, or who outside the Club could come in and fulfil the role, but clearly this Board is too big and not getting the job done. A board of 6-8 (max) with a President who knows business AND knows football, and is NOT part of the Carlton '95 club.

Some on here think Swann isn't up to it, I don't know enough about how he rolls to make comment on that.

Ratten is a Carlton hero, but doesn't have what it takes to coach this Club to a premiership. I don't think we can afford to go with an untried coach, as I have written previously. I think we need someone who can come in from day 1 and DEMAND from ALL areas of the Club (players, administration, footy department and board) an attitude and approach and culture that can win premierships. We are so far off the mark in that area, last night a clear sign of that. I think Malthouse and Roos are the ones who stand out who could do that. It's really hard (but not impossible) for a new coach to establish that in a club where it's badly lacking, but it takes time, time we may not have in our 'window'. Given Roos is not available next year, that leaves Malthouse. He would surely bring in his own people.

Recruiting I think has been an issue for us for a while. Of course, it's hard to know when players don't come on whether it's recruiting or development or both, certainly as an outsider. So my comment is based as much on gut feel as anything else. I am curious that Hughes gets a demotion, but is still around. What's that all about? Why the demotion? I am concerned also that Rogers has declared speed to be his major goal at the draft. It reeks of the Ratten speed kills game plan, that consistently falls down against the better teams in really tight games (and finals like games). Of course, every team needs a spread of speed over the ground, but it also needs hard bodied players, ruthless extractors, and above all, FOOTBALLERS. Mitchell, Ball, Swan, Sewell, Kennedy, Carazzo, Priddis, Thompson etc are not quick. But they are brilliant footballers who get it often and mostly use it brilliantly - and they win you finals games. Hawthorn won a flag in '08 on the back of a recruiting philosophy that they would only pick genuine footballs who were elite disposers of the ball. It might get them another flag this year. It's not rocket science.

As for the players, two things. First, there is a clean out due. Russell, Thornton, Bower, Kerr and a number of others will likely go. The coach, whoever he is, needs to look at all the half back flank types on the list, work out who are the best, and get rid of or trade the rest. White, Davies, Duigan, McInnes, Laidler, Bootsma, McCarthy, O'Keeffe, Tuohy, Thornton, Bower...

Second, onfield leadership, which is severely lacking. It showed up again last night. To allow GC to kick the last 2 goals in such a game, regardless of our kicking at the other end, was criminal. Teams with strong leadership would never allow that to happen. Again, that's where a strong, experienced coach comes in, who can walk into the Club and on day 1 DEMAND that this is how things will be done, it's my way or the highway.

Finally, the boot studder. Doing a top job. Keep.

In order for this club to be the best in the future it needs to take the long road and build from the ground up - get the foundations (board/admin/Footy ops) properly set then attach the trimmings (coaches, players).

100% correct, but you can add Newton to that list.

Before we knee jerk toward MM...

Question on his motivation:

Does he want to take Carlton to the next level? Or does he simply want to grab the money and stick it up Eddie and Collingwood?

We have to be careful not to end up with another Pagan...

Watch the carnage from afar
A very long offseason
Boring trade free agency period
Great talk about where the club is going to be and do
Tigers by 5 goals in first round because these head cases just dont take the pressure

I actually think Pagan came to us with the best of intentions, but was bullshitted to in a major way by the admin, and wound up with the poisoned chalice of the century. As sick of him at the end as I was, I still felt a bit sorry for the poor bastard the way we trashed his coaching rep in his latter years.

And I suspect MM's got enough money. If he wanted to grab the money and stick it up collingwood, he would've just taken their coin for being 'head of coaching' and sat back and done 2/10ths of bugger all for three years, until they finally paid him out.

As much as I've questioned Malthouse's intentions and motives.

There is a part of me, who wants a guy with a stylish moustache to lead us forward onto victory.

First thing in the morning, it's the arts & crafts shop. Pictures to follow.

Then my abrupt banning not long thereafter.

Unless we're all into that kind of thing?

I think everyone knows what is going to happen - Ratts will get moved on and Malthouse will coach

Moving Ratts on is fair enough most have backed him all the way but he has become a Mark Harvey

Do we do what Freo did and go and approach a coach of another club or do we throw out the old mould and create a something entirely different

I would like to see them break the cast and create a coaching panel along the line of what BV has been suggesting - No senior coach but rather a senior coaching panel
