Perhaps Ratts should not have the final say in trading/recruiting/drafting :banghead:

Cazzeman your post re ratts 10 weeks to go just demonstrates weakness and the fact your willing to manipulate standards to support a coach. Making finals is not a pass mark. Stop justifying your bias by lowering the bar

Have you spoken to Stephen Icke lately?

We'll agree to disagree!

MJ you will have to point out my post of 10 weeks ago because I have no idea what you are talking about or what you are referring to....

Here is a list of every Premiership coach since 1990, and how long it has taken them to win a flag:

Scott - 1
Thompson – 8
Malthouse – 8 (6 years with Foots - 3rd in year 2, then flag in year 2 at WC)
Clarkson – 4
Worsfold – 5 (GF after 4)
Roos – 3
Williams – 6 (minor premiers years 4 - 6)
Matthews – 5
Sheedy – 4 (GF after 3)
Pagan – 4
Blight – 7 (Geelong - GFs in years 1, 4 and 6, Adelaide - flag in years 1 and 2)
Parkin – 2
Joyce – 1

Thompson and Malthouse are the exceptions. Most other coaches have won a flag within 5 years, or in the case of Williams, won a minor premiership in years 4 and 5, and Blight, GF in his first year (discounting his incomplete season as coach of North).

Malthouse got the Dogs to a Prelim in his 3rd year (10 point loss). The Dogs didn't make finals after that in Malthouse's time (interesting actually that WC went for him on the back of 8th, 7th, 8th and 13th (when there were final 5s). The clearly saw something).

What does all this mean? Dunno! Other than with Premiership coaches, you know pretty early on that they can coach. The only exception there I would say was Thompson. Every other coach on that list, within 4 or 5 years, you knew they were bloody good.

I don't think measuring how long it takes for a coach to win a flag is going to tell you much as each situation is different. List quality and experience, quality of competition as well as all the off-field stuff that goes into putting together a great team would need to be considered as well.

Not sure if this has been posted as yet but Roos has an article up regarding our coaching situation.

Thanks in8. From the article

......"In my view, the board will not replace Ratten if it makes a rational assessment of his tenure at the club".

:sly: :sly: :sly: First Walls, then Parkin, Eade & Thompson gave him the thumbs up. Now Roos. Let the Spin and deflect begin.

No spin, just facts Caz, Roos has missed the real facts.

How's that record against top 8 teams again? Or top 4 last year? Or finals record over all?

Has an ex-coach ever bagged or spoken ill of another coach's performance? Apart from possibly Grant Thomas when he's chasing notoriety. Honestly, how often does it ever happen?

Make up your own mind on Ratten (or any other coach in the comp). don't look to others to do it for you.

Thats a very naive way to read that article.

He says he supports Ratts (as if he would say he wants a c oach sacked)

and then says some might want Malthouse to come in and lift that cup up something that hasnt been done in a long time for this proud club.... just paraphrasing

but nwhere does he say Ratts in his thoughts is capable of winning the flag....

where does Roos tell us Ratts is a coach capable of winning a flag???

Its just a piece.....

There is no doubt the media don't have a lot of love for MM. His arrogance and belittling of people at after match media events is beginning to bite him in the backside.

Wouldn't mind betting that a number of board members will use such references as a deciding factor and thus Ratten will likely be retained and possibly have his contract extended.
