Last Friday against the Hawks was disappointing and it's fair to say next Friday has a good chance of being a let down too.

Then we play North on Friday the 13th?!

On current form we could be staring at six straight losses (sound familiar). Ouch!

My kingdom for a win.

I'm not sure if the club would do it, but what if Ratten was let go before the season is (officially) over? One would assume Alan Richardson would step into the role of caretaker coach. Are there any other suitable candidates?

And if that did happen, do you reckon the caretaker would be a good bet to get a full-time gig or do you think the club would chase a big name?

Whatever happens next, I just hope it's the right decision. Having potential and failing to deliver on it is giving me the shits.

I hope he isn't given such an ugly exit, but it seems likely at this point.

If it happens. Give it to John Barker. Watch the forward line suddenly develop out of sight...

The whole joint needs to be put under the microscope, not just the coach.
And you do that at the end of the season.

Which can't come soon enough.

It depends how the team travels over next nine weeks. Needs to win 6 out of next nine to survive to the end of year review. But yeah - the noose has been tightened on him now.

If Ratten goes before the end of season, there has to be a caretaker installed.
It's cliche but this person needs to play all the kids at some point to see what they can do in the senior team. Watson has shown that the reserves was stagnating him and he has stepped up with opportunity.
Secondly, everyone who needs surgery and TIME to recover, gets it.
I know Richo is senior assistant, but I would personally give Gavin Brown the role of caretaker. I've been impressed with what he's done with our back line , remember our back line a couple of years ago? It's arguably our strongest line now.
Caretaker for the rest of the season so a review can occur. Shane Rogers to really do his homework and snag us one in the top ten (maybe five). And a clean out of list-cloggers. Some new faces on the board might help as well.

He wont be sacked before the years end, his mates who gifted him the job will have the guilt trip placed upon them if they do

whether he stays on for next year is another thing - i wouldnt shed a tear if they bulleted him though

In 1979, George Harris approached a recently retired Richmond assistant coach named Kevin Sheedy, to come to Carlton for ''General Football Duties''.

Had he come over he might have even played a game or two.

But it would be fair to say, Sheedy as a player wasn't George's long term plan. A ''back up'' plan it may have been, but a plan none the less.

George was a guy who was ruthless. He sacked a triple brownlow medallist as coach after 8 games, after Serge knocked back the job, he didn't ask Jezza if he wanted the job, he TOLD him he was the coach.

But even then, in the next (premiership) year. George still had a back up plan.

History of course tells us it all came to an end that night in Festival Hall. Who knows what might have been if it hadn't? George had his faults, but lack of lateral thinking wasn't one of them.

Lateral thinking and tough decisions particularly with coaching, being made at CARLTON is what's needed. Again.

I don't think he will, but think he should be to give the players the release of pressure change brings.

I would expect a caretaker would take over like Richo/Brown with the charter to see what kids are worth persisting with. Those who have had the chances, we know who they are, will have time to plan the next part of there life in the AFL or outside.

It will also help us plan our trade and drafting strategies properly.

Caretaker specialists Riley and Williams will no doubt do it. I doubt the others would want to do it. It will be ugly.

Dont think Sticks will sack his mate without letting him coach the year out.
Even if its a bad loss on Friday, we re still in with a chance (all be it a slim one) of playing finals.
As much as I want to see Ratten gone, I d liek to avoid an ugly scenario ala Melbourne and Bailey last year, when they sacked the coach after a bad result even though they were still only a game outside the 8 at that stage.

Maybe Sticks could give each of the assistants a week to show their wares as head coach.

They wouldn't have a hope of implementing anything but the players could vote for their favourite by showing greater effort that week.

It's a process that could @#$%&! us up for years but it couldn't be any worse that what we've seen so far.

As senior assistant, Richardson should act as senior coach and focus on improving individual skills and techniques until a new appointment is made and playing style formulated.

I agree with this.

My fear, if Ratten is moved on in the next few weeks, is that this may result in other aspects of the club's administration missing out on critical scrutiny.

Waiting to take remedial action until the end of the year wastes crucial planning time for 2013.

First step is that the board needs major re-calibration to release the shackles on identifying the clubs shortcomings.
With a new President there is a new power dynamic that allows a comprehensive independent review of the club to take place.

Once the review is complete, the board can then restructure it's departments, including the football dept. and coaches.

This all takes time. Too much to do to leave it to the end of the year if we want a structure in place for trade week/draft time.

Fair point mate but with that logic you wouldnt want a caretaker put into the coaches role halfway through a season either. The same issue would be there. Either the future coach goes in straight away and they plan for 2013 (which means CFC would have to be going through a selection process immediately) or we wait until year's end.

Cant believe we've fallen this far since round 4. Exact same sentiments when pagan was sacked. What a waste of five years

I can't see the point in sacking him before the end of the year. It might happen if we lose to Norf or the Dogs by 10 goals but overall I think it would be futile. We'd just appoint one of the assistants as caretaker and nothing would change.
