I agree 100% with you here. What I'm curious about though is how many agree with you here, yet advocate sacking Ratten anyway in 1 or 2 other threads about the place. Don't understand how the coaching staff aren't immune to that culture either?
Sacking Ratten is as pointless as pointless gets at this point.
Until someone figures out a feasible exit strategy for Sticks, most things about the club are.
Problem one: Who would actually run against him?
Problem two: Who would actually win against him, if they did?
Problem three: When would the media actually write anything negative about him? He's as teflon as teflon gets. The boys club media love him, as he gets on the sauce with them, sends them to Qatar, and is prone to saying something stupid without being completely offensive or criminal. I can't remember the last time anyone in the press pointed a finger at the bloke. Caro, maybe.....
Problem three: Who would win, and then say to him "No, sorry, we're not interested in a "unity ticket", no you can't stay on the board, bugger off..." as all those since 2002 before him have not?
Problem four: Better the devil you know than the devil you don't? Who's to say that we're not opening the door to previous shit elements of the board from years gone by?
The best chance of this lies with Fitzpatrick giving up being the heir apparent to the AFL throne to run Carlton. Unlikely is an understatement. Even then, with the set up of the constitution toward member elections, I can't see the AFL-endorsed candidate getting up over Sticks without help from the media portraying Sticks as the incompetency behind our failure. No-one else has the profile or resume.
We're [REDACTED] and at the behest of Sticks. Better off starting up a new club...
