Don't want to get involved, but I'll post my thoughts anyway
Waite had a very good game. Don't get me wrong there. First game him, Kreuz and Jamo play together in two years and we flog a team is no coincidence.
Its still the same old Waite tricks that come up though that prevent him from being Buddy or Riewoldt levels of good though. No denying the potential and tools to do it. Clearly you're trying to get a rise out of me, or portray my comments as something they're not, but every game in memory from Waite in the past ten years shows him probably over-committing to the first tackle, and laying on the ground whilst the opponent runs on. Last night there were a couple of examples on show in the third quarter where he made a desperate lunge at a player, barrel rolled over the boundary, and watched as (I think it was Clarke?) strolled on out of the 50 under no pressure.
In his younger days, he was quick enough to make those tackles stick. Post knee injury, not even close.
Surely by now, someone would work with him on simplifying his approach to tackling. Get him watching some tapes of Kreuz and seeing how his second and third efforts are team lifting. If Waite was half as good in this area, he'd be one of the top 3 best forwards in the league.
Instead, I feel he tends to be content to cruise by on natural ability.
