Luca? What a single name? Did the guy play for Brazil or something?

Carlton's Social Media Director, Adrian DeLuca, has opened up a thread on BF and is willing to answer any membership questions. Ask anything, he'll have a couple of goes at it.

Blue Zone, a campaign to further the connection between the Carlton Football Club and local communities, is aimed to highlight the Club’s ongoing work with its citizens.

I am still struggling to understand this blue zone 'campaign'. How is the club connecting with its citizens? Is it just putting some stickers on shopkeepers doors and doing a quick walk through Lygon Street? Is it more than this?

Does it really matter? We pay our memberships knowing it is just a donation with game entry included. 10 years ago, all this communication garbage wasn't even considered. I live for game day, and couldn't really care less what communication comes out of the footy club outside of the team announced on Thursday night (and to be honest, since Adam played fullback for Jerusulem, the teams announced should be taken with a grain of salt).

Go Blues!

It matters for a number of reasons.

* Connects the club to it's historical past

* Is a PR opportunity. Photo in the paper doesn't exist without the exercise. Judd, Murphy & Gibbs sell papers.

* Gets members. Reminds existing members to renew.

Emphasis on the "I" couldnt care less. The club gets its membership money from me regardless, so I am of the importance of being a member. Game day is all that counts in my opinion.

Fair enough. I don't share your view, but many do and I respect that.

In that case, a communications campaign by the club, any campaign, wouldn't work for you no matter what. But then, they're not aimed at people like you, they're aimed at the casual observer, the vacillator, to get them to make the connection.

Unfortunately lately, the communications out of the club seem to be distancing the club from people, rather than drawing them in, IMO.

Sorry Doc

Didnt mean to come across as a prick, had one of those days.

FWIW, I understand the importance of communications, but I would argue that the reason that we appear to be behind is because we were bad for so long. If we win a flag or 2 over the coming years, memberships etc will be up, and come into line with our match attendance, then discussions re our comms etc from the club wont be irrelevant. As things stand, we missed on the chance to draw thousands of juniors as members because we were so crap for a decade or so.

The wheel will turn!

Go Blues!

I may be wrong but I had thought it was tied into the I am Carlton strategy - reclaim the Carlton area as belonging to the club, create sense of unity, etc.

I've worked in Hawthorn for years and even though the Hawks aren't based at Glenferrie Rd anymore, every September in particular the street is FULL of Hawthorn propaganda.

Now we are complaining about the boys visiting Lygon street...?
I want to complain about the 100,000 facebook fans! That's bullshit. Where is the 1,000,000?
PATHETIC.

I'm complaining about those complaining of complainers forming a collective.

I'm an anti-anti-complaining anarchist.

There's no pleasing Dane. Not only does he not like the complainers, he doesn't like the complaining of the complainers, of which he clearly is one!

If the club said they were just going for a cruise down Lygon for a bit of a feel good jaunt, that would be cool. But it seems like they are promoting a campaign that doesn't 'appear' to have any direction or longevity. Hopefully this isn't the case, but who would know.

Good to see my donation dollars are being spent wisely...tee hee.
