Harry Kernahan
1937-2012

It is with great sadness that the Glenelg Football Club wishes to inform supporters that Harry Kernahan passed away today.
As a ruckman, Harry Kernahan first won over Tiger fans in 1959. Kernahan played 176 games and kicked 149 goals for Glenelg between 1959-65 and 1969-71. He was captain in 1964 and 1965, and played 10 State games.
Kernahan, one of the greats of Glenelg, was awarded Life Member in 1971, and was inducted into the Inaugural Glenelg Football Club Hall of Fame. Kernahan was the club’s general manager through its most successful years from 1973-1987. During this time, Glenelg won three of its four premierships and the next generation of Kernahan stars emerged in sons Gary, Stephen and David.
The Glenelg Football Club offer our sincere condolences to the Kernahan family for the sad loss of a true champion.

One of the most influential footballing men in SANFL Football passed away today.

Condolences to Stephen, David & Gary Kernahan and the Kernahan families.

A sad day for the Glenelg Football Club.

RIP Harry.

Reading the articles about Harry you can see how and why Sticks got his passion for our club.

Chip off the old block.

A more loyal family of football lovers you could not find.

A lot of people don't know that the Kernahan family, basically raised Chris McDermott & his siblings after the McDermotts lost their parents at a young age.

Chris basically lived at the Kernahans.

Such a sad loss.

74 years would have been considered to be a reasonable lifespan in the 1960s.

But not in 2011 - and as we move deeper into the 21st century - even less so.

The Glenelg Footy club had a memorial for Harry today.

I couldn't make it

One of my good mates went and said Macca, Tommy Alvin, Gibbsy, he thinks Peter Dean and Brett Ratten were all there on Carlton's behalf.

Sticks, Doozer & Gary were there too and spoke well.

He gave Ratts his phone and called me at home.

Had a quick chat to the coach

Fantastic for the club to send over these blokes...
